Features & Highlights

  • In this stunning
  • New York Times
  • bestselling follow-up to
  • The Notebook
  • , a hardworking but distant husband vows to win back the love of his life by looking to Noah and Allie's legendary romance.
  • After thirty years, Wilson Lewis is forced to face a painful truth: the romance has gone out of his marriage. His wife, Jane, has fallen out of love with him, and it is entirely his fault. Despite the shining example of his in-laws, Noah and Allie Calhoun, and their fifty-year love affair, Wilson himself is a man unable to express his true feelings. He has spent too little time at home and too much at the office, leaving the responsibility of raising their children to Jane. Now his daughter is about to marry, and his wife is thinking about leaving him. But if Wilson is sure of anything, it is this: His love for Jane has only grown over the years, and he will do everything he can to save their marriage. With the memories of Noah and Allie's inspiring life together as his guide, he vows to find a way to make his wife fall in love with him...all over again. In this powerfully moving tale of love lost, rediscovered, and renewed, Nicholas Sparks once again brings readers his unique insight into the only emotion that ultimately really matters.

NOT the normal work of Nicholas Sparks

Normally I don't write reviews on the books I read because I read upwards of 35-40 per year. In short...I LOVE to read! But in this case...I was so disappointed in this monotonously boring work I just had to write a review so all you Nicholas Sparks fans out there realize this is NOT one of his normally good books. I have trie3d for three nights to get into this boring story of a couple in their later years planning their daughter's sudden wedding. But it is impossible! I found myself skipping full pages to get past the monotony and try to find his normally good writing. Horrible waste of money and time. What happened to this author?? It's like he was just reaching for any subject to write another book to make some more money based on his name. I would have to recommend NOT bothering to purchase this book. I ended up throwing it away and it made me angry that he wrote such a boring piece of work that I foolishly bought!

Absolute torture to read

We read it for our book club and universally hated it. The main character is so boring and out of touch we would have divorced him. The family allowing the supposedly beloved family homestead fall to ruin was not credible. The wife tattling to the son rather than talking to her husband was ridiculous. All in all it was absolute torture to read.

Amends of the Heart

Ostensibly reprising the love affair between Noah and Allie, as deliciously chronicled in THE NOTEBOOK (which ended in their mutual death-embrace) this touching novel follows the heart’s journey of Wilson, who married Jane, one of their daughter’s. After having completely forgotten his anniversary he is determined to make up for it in a grandiose gesture. But before that dates arrives his daughter, Anna, announces that she and her fiancé plan to get married in a mere two weeks’ time. Can her delighted parents, who earnestly wish for her to experience the kind of elaborately romantic wedding that They had not enjoyed. Can they all work hard to make this glorious event happen?

Echoes of gracious South Carolina living low, murmuringly through these pages of the next generation’s ardent desire to do it up right. But elderly Noah, a resident of Creekside (an assisted-living facility) causes them all great concern with his failing health—both physical and mental. They refuse to accept his absurd insistence that a fairly tame swan is somehow the reincarnation of his lost Allie. Why does he seem to trust his son-in-law, Wilson, even more than his own devoted offspring?

Literary style alternates freely between the present and the various pasts—flowing casually but irrevocably gently through all 18 chapters. Somehow we just wish that Sparks had revealed to us a bit more in the Epilogue. The mesmerizing 276 pages will tug at your heartstrings—reminding you to cherish those dearest to you and not be shy to let them know your true sentiments; it’s never too late to make amends. Behind the scenes we keep wondering if we will learn the truth about a transcendental swan who proves to be Noah's" idee fixe."

Could hardly finish

Okay I have read a couple Nicholas Sparks books in the past and loved them. Just finished The Wish and would recommend to anyone. However, The Wedding was so incredibly boring by chapter 9 I literally skipped all the way to chapter 18 just to get the book over with and it felt like I hadn’t even skipped anything at all. Probably just 9 chapters of Wilson making phone calls and flirty banter between him and Jane and boring conversations between him and Noah. I’m usually easily impressed by books but this was so boring. I couldn’t wait to finish just to be done with it.
