Review “…witty and delightful…A touching story that is perfect for fans of Maria Semple’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette and the humor of Jennifer Weiner’s novels, this book is for those who understand the difficulties of tackling life, work, and love as a millennial.” ― Library Journal (starred) “The book’s format includes diary entries, texts, and emails, giving the reader a glimpse of Annie’s robust inner life―she may seem standoffish and distant, but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes…[Annie’s] journey takes unexpected, poignant turns, delving into deeper issues while maintaining a positive tone and peppy pace. Though she pretends to be closed off to the world, in fact she can’t stop caring―and that push-pull of who to let into her life, and under what terms, is something we all understand at a soul-deep level. Annie’s journey from oblivious in love to aware and empowered had me cheering and turning the pages madly, unable to tear myself away. If you want to laugh and lose yourself in a great read, this is the one for you!” ―Kelly Harms, bestselling author of The Overdue Life of Amy Byler “Witty, wise, and of the moment, This Won’t End Well is a story of unlikely friendships, calculated risks, and taking a stand―even when it’s easier to maintain the status quo. Annie, the protagonist at the center of her latest novel, is no exception. Features & Highlights
An ingeniously witty novel about the risks―and rewards―of opening your life to new people by Amazon Charts bestselling author Camille Pagán.
No new people: that’s Annie Mercer’s vow. It’s bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he’s gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too―from everyone.
Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can’t help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?
Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. Then Jon reappears―and he wants her to join him in France. She’s pretty sure letting
anyone
get close won’t end well. So she must decide: Is another shot at happiness worth the risk?

Such a great read!
I follow Camille Pagan's books and this might just be her best yet. She has a way of creating unique voices and rich character's and then folds them into story lines that are amusing and unexpected. This book was so good I actually read it twice because, not to give anything away, but I didn't see the plot twist coming the first time. This Won't End Well is sprinkled with enough wisdom and insight that I felt I liked people just a little more after reading it which is really something since I relate a little more than I care to admit to the "no new people" idea. Ultimately, it's a quick enough read but you won't want to rush it.

Adorable, Quirky and Heartwarming
Camille Pagán writes adorable, quirky, loveable characters like no other, and Annie, the main character in Pagán’s latest novel, This Won’t End Well, is no exception. After Annie’s fiancé informs her that he is spending a month in Paris, alone, and doesn’t want to be contacted, Annie swears off new people. Soon, though, Annie finds herself worrying for the safety of Harper, her new next-door neighbor. Not long after, Annie unexpectedly encounters Mo, a detective, who is surveilling Harper. Before she knows it, Annie has let two new people into her life and that can’t possibly end well.
“If you’re willing to look for joy and open yourself to new possibilities, the end is not an ending at all. It’s a beginning.”
I enjoyed the unique format of journal entries, emails and texts. The emails from the neighborhood association were hilarious and relatable.
If you haven’t read Pagán’s backlist, I highly recommend all of them…she has become one of my go-to authors for witty, heartwarming stories.
Thank you to the Tall Poppy Bloggers and author, Camille Pagán for the advanced copy; all opinions are my own.
“I hope everything that comes your way is better than what has gone.”

A Treasure from Beginning to End!
When I pick up a Camille Pagán novel, I know two things for certain. I know that I’m going to meet some quirky and complex characters I won’t dare forget, and I know that every emotional note is going to hit that perfect sweet spot between humor and heartache. Other than that, I never know what to expect from the unpredictable journey I’m about to embark on. I just hold on tight and enjoy every second of the ride, and that’s exactly what happened with Pagán’s latest novel, This Won’t End Well.
This humorous and heartfelt novel hooked me from the very beginning, and I couldn’t put it down. Camille Pagán has a knack for creating characters that capture the messy and confounding experience of what it means to be human, and Annie may just be her best heroine yet. From chapter one, my heart went out to her, and as every chapter peeled back a new layer of her life, I wanted nothing more than to see her find not just a happy ending, but the right happy ending for her. Every person in her life, from her absentee fiancé, Jon, to her best friend, Leesa (and her crystals), to her mother to Harper is so much more than they appear at the outset, highlighting the fact that we never really know what a person is going through until we see things through their lens. This Won’t End Well kept me guessing about what was going to happen until the very last page, but more importantly, it kept me in the throes of Annie’s emotional journey—laughing with her, crying with her, and rooting for her.
This Won’t End Well is a beautiful, heartwarming novel about compassion, sympathy, and understanding—both for others and for ourselves. If you’re looking for a madcap ride filled with humor and heart, I can’t recommend this book enough.

Love the extremely real and relatable characters in this epistolary novel
Annie's life is about to implode (which is fitting since she's a chemist) but so not fun when it's her life instead of an experiment. Her boss, Todd, has been sexually harassing her, she's living with her mom because she's worried about her health, and her fiancé, Jon, has left on an impromptu trip to Paris... without even asking her to join him! In order to cope and in turn, avoid getting hurt again, she's decided to avoid anyone new in her life. But, of course, as we all know, life doesn't always go as planned and not one, but two, new people soon enter her life.
"This is the problem with making a habit of a person: all of the neural pathways he has carved remain long after he's gone."
Ironically, since the book is written mostly in first person account journal entries, I the reader inadvertently became a new person in Annie's life! Luckily, just like her other new friend Harper, I was a positive influence and extremely supportive of her decisions. Wink wink.
I've been a fan of this author since she first started writing and love that her characters are so real and relatable. Epistolary novels are my jam, and this one was extremely effective in its delivery. I found myself rooting for Annie as she tried to decide what comes next. Even though the title implies that things won't end well for her, once Annie decides to make decisions that are right for her, it's smooth sailing ahead! If you love books with strong female leads (especially if they are raw and human and falter at times just like us), then be sure to try this one.
Location: East Haven, Michigan and Paris, France
I received an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I felt very close to Annie! Story of hope! Unforgettable!
Camille Pagán always delivers novels where her characters crack wide open, and we get to watch as they try to heal their souls! She writes with truth and honesty about their trials and tribulations. But, we do find ourselves laughing out loud and smiling as she has them walk their path!
I adored Annie Mercer! I was rooting for her! When I closed “This Won’t End Well”, I felt very close to Annie!
This novel was written using a rather invigorating approach, that I found to be genius! It was so original! She had her protagonist Annie Mercer share texts, emails and journal entries as she told us her story!! It felt more intimate! So cool!
The very essence of this story is hope and never giving up on yourself.
Truly unforgettable!

Quirky and Fun with a few minor flaws
I have been a fan of this author for some time and enjoyed this novel with yet another quirky, lovable character. Annie is a chemist with a distinctly scientific attitude towards life. She thinks things through in a logical manner. However, life has a way of throwing curve balls into even the most well-thought-out plans and in this case, Annie has lost her job due to a lecherous boss who she shoved into some expensive lab equipment. Then, the love of her life took off with little warning (a phone call) to spend some time alone in Paris (he is a French teacher.)
As we read the emails and journals she writes, we find out the details of Annie's current life (cleaning houses), of her past, and how things work out with her determination to not get to know any new people in an effort to help keep the unexpected at bay.
I think I would rate this as 3 1/2 stars or maybe even 3 /34. Not quite a 4 for me. One problem I have is that the boyfriend's explanations, which unfold later on in the book, for his feelings about why he had to suddenly leave without her, about his sudden lack of desire for teaching and about his feelings for Annie, are not quite believable.
Another is the implausibility of the big reveals about a couple of characters: the woman who moves in next door, a glamorous woman that Annie is intrigued by yet determined to keep her distance from and the young 'almost' private detective, of Arabic descent, who Annie reluctantly befriends after falling on him from the top of a wall in her backyard.
That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the story. It was funny and interesting and goofy, as well as a lovely, droll story of how we all need connections with others, however much we might wish we didn't.
I would recommend this as a light, fun read and also Ms. Pagáns other novels that I've read - 'I'm Fine and Neither Are You' and Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties. The writing is good and the stories just suck you in. Go ahead and grab one and enjoy being immersed in a great story for a while.

Witty and Fun
I just read a book full of witty-fun, it also gave my emotions a little awakening to how much control we have over our life choices. “This Won't End Well” by Camille Pagán was indeed an eye-opener that life is what you make of it. I loved that it was in first-person. The email and journal form throughout the book was a new twist, that I thought was brilliant. It was a slow read at first but I certainly was drawn in before I knew it.
I love Annie, the main character; she is so real and charming. Her life takes a turn when her fiancé decides to leave to “find himself” on a long trip to France. Annie realizes she also has to find herself but dealing with friends, family, her career and the quirky new neighbor, makes it a bit of challenge.
Camille Pagán is a new author to me and I am so glad to have been introduced to her by this stunning book. She has a talent with words that are full of sunshine! This delightful story will keep you smiling. If you're looking to read a book that will give you a little chuckle during this difficult pandemic, grab this book to take you away from it all, if only just for a short time.

This was a very enjoyable read!!!
For once no bad language and yet mature and had a good plot. Main character had depth and the storyline was very believable. It wasn't a heavy book, but light enough to be a quick fun read. I could really relate to the main character even though she's 20 something and I'm 60! Very glad I purchased this book...now off to see more from this author!
