Surprisingly beautiful, excellent collection and quality purchase!

Surprisingly beautiful book. There were no reviews about it yet, so I wasn't sure. The edgings of the pages are beautiful and gold; it would make a fantastic addition to a children's library/gift.

But there are nine tales in here, all with glossy, beautiful color pages (even nicer than the Little Gold Books usually are) of some of the newest Thomas & Friends stories: Thomas and the Big, Big Bridge; Thomas Breaks a Promise; Thomas and the Great Discovery; May the Best Engine Win!; Hero of the Rails; Misty Island Rescue; Day of the Diesels; Blue Mountain Mystery; and King of the Railway. All the stories were published between 2006 and 2013 and have much of the new animation style, akin to the films, but seems even nicer than a few of the slender Little Golden Books I've seen.

Doing the math, one of the Little Golden Book is usually $3-4 each, so this is an incredible value ($27-$36 for all of them separately!), a third of the discount price at under $9.Thanks, Amazon.

Side notes: My two year old son recently received as a gift a level 1 "I Can Read" collection of six Thomas stories which is also excellent: I did not want to get the same stories if I could help it, and there's no overlap. This collection, while also by Random House, has more text per page and with much smaller font and doesn't necessarily rhyme (the ICR one does), but has all of the great writing and lessons otherwise. It's more like a typical Little Golden Book that way. My only wish is for more of those rhyming big print stories, to help facilitate my Thomas-loving little one's literacy (he has them memorized after just a few weeks).

My son stared at it for over a half hour in the day we've had it!

there is enough variety to keep parents happy too. One word of warning

My Tomas-obsessed toddler loves this book. The pictures are colorful and the pages are glossy. Even though we read a story from this book EVERY night, there is enough variety to keep parents happy too. One word of warning: if you already own Thomas and Friends Story Time Collection, like we do, a few of the stories in this book are also in the Story Time Collection. They have different titles, but are essentially the same story with only minor differences in some pictures and text. For example Misty Island Rescue is the same story as Lost at Sea. Still worth the purchase in my opinion though.

Perfect for toddlers into trains

My 2 year old boys are too young for this book. I don't think they need to learn about how Thomas broke his promise or how other trains tease or that there is a race. They are just too young for these things. However, they love Thomas and the trains. They have been crazy about trains since 14/15 months, and after I bought Thomas, Percy, James, and other trains, this is the book they ask me to read. I left it at the back thinking they are too young, but they took it out and asked me to read it. So I read it but make up my own stories. I talk about how so and so is stuck in the tunnel, or the tracks broke, or they fell off the track, and how everyone helped them get back. I also introduce the new trains in this book. My boys' are wide-eyed in wonderment and are animated, they repeat everything after me and now say whatever I say when they see certain expressions. I also tell them how the trains become stronger because they eat well, and eat fruits and whole wheat bread and not just potatoes and junk. Hopefully this will make my fussy toddlers eat better! I LOVE this book, and initially I thought of sending it back but am glad I kept it. There are 9 different tales so I get to switch every night, my kids get enough variety and don't ever want me to stop. I highly recommend this book for your toddlers especially if they are into trains and you are ok with making up your own stories.

These are indeed favorite tales

This is an economical way to get nine golden books of Thomas stories. They keep the feel of the original stories very well, and are among the wholesome, entertaining stories I would recommend very highly for little boys (and little girls -- my daughter liked them quite well). The book is a great place to start enjoying the Thomas stories. The only drawback to this book is that it is fairly big and heavy for little ones. Consequently if your child loves the stories as much as my son does, the book will get hauled all over the place and read and read until the binding falls apart. The individual books are easier to haul about, and their bindings will last better, especially in the hands of little ones. But then again, nine individual books will set you back more money.

Trains not as mean to each other in this compilation - love it!

My son loves this book! We bought this book to replace the electronic versions of some of the same, individual stories, and to get some additional stories. The biggest problem I have with most Thomas stories is the mean-spirited way the trains treat each other. Golden Books did a great job of toning down and even eliminating that mean-spirited tone from most of these stories. They even did as good a job as possible of toning down "Day of the Diesels" (we originally purchased the individual kindle version of "Diesels" and like this compilation's shorter version better). Thanks Golden Books!

Great Stories, Great Illustrations

This book is wonderful! We already have tons and tons of Thomas books, but we bought this because Amazon recently took a bunch of Thomas movies off of Prime and my son was so dissappointed. This book had all of those stories and more! Also, the illustrations are beautiful! My one criticism is that the font size of the text changes from story to story. I guess they did that to make each story relatively the same number of pages, but it's somewhat annoying when you are reading 4 stories in one sitting.

My grandsons love the Thomas works in all their manifestations

My grandsons love the Thomas works in all their manifestations, and this book is just perfect for a reading before bedtime. The illustrations are lush and the lessons do not beat you over the head.

Thomas falls apart...

We love this book for content, but it’s not very durable. My toddler dropped it outside getting in the car and it started to rip. And from there it’s been a struggle to keep it intact.
