I really enjoy MaryJanice Davidson' books

Even though I am a guy, I really enjoy MaryJanice Davidson' books. Her characters have attitude, her story lines are filled with humor AND they keep you guessing as to "What will happen next".
I can't say enough GOOD about these books, (and their author). I've purchased and read all the Mermaid and Undead series. In fact, on multiple times I've sat up all night just to finish a book.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I used to recommend this series to people?

EPub/Vampire Chicklit: I liked it, but I had a hard time getting through the first part of the book. The biggest problem was that by chapter 25, every character from the past six books showed up for a cameo or was name dropped. I was wrong. By chapter 38, EVERY character showed up at the mansion or was name dropped. It was too much at one time; especially in the first 50 pages. Too many past characters and too much vague back story. The past plots and characters are bought up and there is no need for it; get the story to the driveway. There ended up being no plot and too much arguing.

Another problem is that the author writes short stories in anthology books. That would be fine but there are new characters introduced.or major Betsy World changes that should not be in a anthology book. I am not a big fan of the short story and choose not to read them. Another issue is that some characters have two names.

The author, says in her introduction, that was also long-winded, that the story is going into a new direction. I really did not see it until the end. There is a tragedy and I hope Betsy will grow from it. Betsy is a selfish fashionista and it did seem like she was growing through the first few books. However, she seems to be going backwards mentally with the wealth her husband has brought her. The book actually got better when she got away from her husband and house guests. The Ant is annoying. Antonia is even worse.

My biggest peeve was bad grammar. The narrative is in first person. When a line of quoted dialog is put in a sentence all by itself, I expect it to be said by the narrator, Betsy. Most of the time it was. But several times it would be Sinclair or in other cases I had to reread it to figure out who it was speaking. In two cases, I could not figure it out. Unless it's Betsy talking, the editor should have specified the character speaking.

The good part is that this is a short book. I have the next two or three books on EPub so I go ahead with them, but Betsy was funner when she was worried about how she was going to pay for a new pair of shoes on her credit card. You must read at least some of the past book and anthology to understand this book.

Getting worse

This series started out really cute and enjoyable now its just rushed through and everyone has the same cussing personality. I always looked forward to reading the next book but after this one I'm done with the series.

Going Downhill

This book is a huge backwards step in quality (and quantity). Some chapters are two pages long- sometimes it really seems that the author has created a new chapter just to add a half page of blankness to make the story longer. The fiend subject is boring, and the supporting characters are often limited to simple one-line phrases that often involve nothing but swearing. The characters have been stripped of any redeeming qualities, and it almost made me wonder why any of them would put up with each other. I'm going to wait for the reviews of the 9th book before I invest any time and money in the 8th, since it seems the reviews are even worse for the 8th book than this one.
