A Well Crafted Story

Cynthia DeFelice's compelling story about a 12 year old boy named Erik, who must make a move from his comfortable home in New York State to his grandparent's home, in the wilderness of North Dakota. Leaving behind his friends, his electronics and his newly acquired hunting license that he was so looking forward to using. His parents are in the reserves and have been called to duty in Iraq. With no time to think about it, Erik is on a plane to a different state to live with relatives he has not seen since he was a toddler.
He struggles with the adjustments and the mysteries that he senses surrounding his new home. He finds comfort in a lost dog that he befriends who becomes his partner in crime. So many emotions are crafted into this story your heart is pulled in so many directions. A great read aloud or read alone book.

Nice looking hard-cover book and great read!

My 10-year-old son received this book as a gift for Christmas and has already read it...great story and a good read as he says. The book itself is a hard-back book and looks beautiful. This will be a nice addition to his growing collection.

Interesting story

Bought this for my 10-yr old grandson (was on his Christmas wish list). I read it first and enjoyed it.

Great for reluctant reader.

This is the first book ever that my 11 year old picked out on his own, wanted to buy and read on his own. He actually asked for more books from the same author and sat with me while we picked them out on amazon. So We ordered two more of her books. The reading level was perfect for him. He is in 6th grade and reads at a 5th grade level. He would way rather be outside hunting and fishing, riding his bike and ripstick than reading, but this book sure did help. I hope the author reads these reviews, and can really understand how much I appreciate her gift of writting and sharing it with my son.

Wild Life

My grandson, 9 1/2, really enjoyed this book. In fact, by reading it outloud his dad and grandfather also really enjoyed it. He read one or two chapters a night and could hardly wait for the next night to see what was going to happen next. Great book!
