Description

“…a tremendously gifted storyteller…” — Paula McLain, New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Wife “In a style reminiscent of Maeve Binchy, Jojo Moyes explores the multigenerational impact of missteps and untold truths.” — Romantic Times BOOKclub “[Moyes’s] thoughtful tone and light touch make this a delightful read.” — Publishers Weekly “This is a remarkable first novel, rich and deep and full of wonderfully realized characters. Oh, these women!” — Anne Rivers Siddons “I enjoyed [Sheltering Rain] very much.” — Rosamunde Pilcher “Accomplished debut...in style and substance Moyes is a worthy addition to [Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy’s] ranks....Fluidly paced and cast with engaging characters.” — Booklist From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You , the basis for the major motion picture, comes a breathtaking drama ofxa0 two women whose lives entwine through a lovely English seaside house For Lottie Swift, Arcadia has always been magical. The breathtaking art deco house perched above the shoreline of the well-ordered village of Merham seems to stand still throughout the years. It has never changed, not really, but Lottie’s fate and fortune have been inextricably linked with that of the beautiful house, and it will forever be fixed in her mind as a symbol of adventure, youth, and of loves lost and gained. Even as her life—and the house—fall into disrepair. Years later another young woman comes to Merham. A designer hired to make over the now-empty Arcadia, Daisy Parsons seeks a new beginning, as Lottie once did. Fleeing a broken relationship and now facing being a single mother, Daisy finds refuge in the house, and something more—a love she thought she would never know again and a friendship unlike any she’s experienced before. Jojo Moyes is a British novelist and journalist. She is one of only a few authors to have twice won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award by the Romantic Novelists' Association and has been translated into eleven different languages. Read more

Not my favourite by this author

Jojo Moyes is one of my favourite authors and I love her later books eg Me before you. I didn't enjoy this one so much and found it hard to get into. I think she has definitely improved with age.

Was surprised as I like this author a lot

I found it difficult to get into. I have put it down and will try another time to read it. It jumped around a lot in the beginning and was hard to follow. Was surprised as I like this author a lot.

Not the Authors Best Book

I've read other books by this author that I thoroughly enjoyed. This one was good, but a little disjointed. I thought it had too many characters that weren't memorable enough to remember, but kept showing up in the story.

Dissapointed

I have already read three JoJo Moyes books which I thoroughly enjoyed. Windfallen is not in the same category of her later books. The characters are weak, the story structure is disjointed. It could have been a good book if the editor had been doing their job.

which I hate to see coming

As with all of her books I can't get enough. She has a way of writing that puts you right in the story and keeps you there until the end, which I hate to see coming.

Horrible!

I really tired to read this book because it was recommended to me by a friend I knew would ask me about it later, but I had to put it down unfinished. The characters were cartoonish and it's all been done before - better.

Disappointing

I found this book had a poor foundation for it's story. The idea of instant love I was not buying. Her other two books were much better thought out in both plot and how they were written. I read it for book club. The middle and end were better than the beginning.
