A BOSTON GLOBE BEST BOOK OF 2017 "The Lunar Chronicles continue in this entertaining graphic novel sequel to the existing volumes . This follow-up to the futuristic fairy-tale retellings centers on Iko, cyborg mechanic Cinder’s best friend. Acclimating to her human body, the android is trying to help Queen Cinder of Luna ease tensions with Earth by hunting down rogue wolf-hybrid soldiers who were once enslaved by Cinder’s evil stepmother and have now been banished to the green planet." ― School Library Journal " Meyer focuses on Iko, Cinder’s cheeky sidekick and an assassin agent sent to hunt down the wolf-soldier hybrids that are plaguing Earth. Unlike some of the previous novels, this story doesn’t require preexisting knowledge of the series, easily catching up fans and new readers alike with capsule introductions to Cress and other members of the Rampion crew in a prologue. Iko is an entertainingly flippant yet formidable heroine, a former servant droid who now inhabits an escort’s body and takes on bloodthirsty enemies as though she were invincible." ― Publishers Weekly " Fans of The Lunar Chronicles and new readers alike will be delighted ... beloved worlds and characters have smoothly transitioned into graphic format, and a thorough character introduction and quick recap will help new readers feel right at home... Energetic and entertaining with the right balance of action, humor, and romance. Though Iko is the main protagonist, all of the major characters from the series are brought and employed wisely... Holgate’s dynamic yet monochromatic artwork supplements the snappy dialogue and captures the characters’ personalities and mannerisms beautifully." ―VOYA, starred review Praise for The Lunar Chronicles: #1 New York Times Bestselling Series USA Today Bestseller Publishers Weekly Bestseller “A mash-up of fairy tales and science fiction…a cross between Cinderella, Terminator, and Star Wars.”― Entertainment Weekly “Prince Charming among the cyborgs.”― The Wall Street Journal “Terrific.”― Los Angeles Times “Marissa Meyer rocks the fractured fairy tale genre.”― The Seattle Times “Epic awesome.” – Bustle“A binge-reading treat.”―MTV“Takes the classic to a whole new level.”―NPR Marissa Meyer is the #1 New York Times –bestselling author of the Renegades Trilogy, The Lunar Chronicles series, the Wires and Nerve graphic novels, and The Lunar Chronicles Coloring Book. This was cute

It's no secret that I love the Lunar Chronicles and this world the Meyer built. So of course, I hit that preorder button on Amazon faster than Usain Bolt crossing that finish line when this book popped up. I don't really know what I was expecting when I went in - most likely more adorable interactions with my faves - but what I got was Iko: Super Spy. And it was okay.

Wires and Nerves takes place after Winter with Lunar and Earth trying to come to a trustworthy alliance. Cinder is on the verge of abdicating her throne in favor of a more republic government but before she can do that, she must eradicate the rogue lunar soldiers still hiding out on Earth. With the Earthern people still wary of Lunars and unwilling to accept help, Cinder sends Iko to track down these packs and bring them back to Luna.

I really enjoyed getting to see everyone again and see how they are adapting to their new roles. And while we did get to see everyone, I was a little let down by the whole thing. First with Iko. Now I love Iko. Throughout the series she was always a constant source of humor, love, and bravery. And while I enjoyed reading a whole book from her point of view, I feel that she works better as a side character. It's not that she's not interesting, because she is. But I don't know if holding her own was the best thing.

The story itself was good but still felt a little lacking. I think this is because I'm so used to Meyer's descriptive writing and we didn't get that here since it was a graphic novel and I missed those little touches. Because of this parts of the story felt rushed and the characters played differently off of each other.

Lastly was the artwork itself. I wasn't too impressed. It felt a little childish considering the themes. With so much fan art out there, I think I got spoiled seeing other people's interpretations of the characters. And was I the only one a little creeped out by the Wolf and Scarlet drawings? I mean, I get that he's named Wolf for a reason, but I never pictured him that wolfish. It was just weird to me.

That being said, I'm sad we have to wait until next year to get the continuation. Because let's be honest, there's no way I'm not going to read anything Meyer puts out.

Not what I expected, but good nonetheless

Overall Assessment:
I've never actually read a graphic novel,so this was a first for me. Not knowing what to expect, it was pretty good. The illustrations weren't quite what I was picturing (especially Wolf, yikes), but I'm sure we all have our own visions of what each character looks like in our head :) . This is a much lighter book, containing a lot more humor and less serious situations than The Lunar Chronicles.

What I liked:
– Iko was great. She kept the sassiness we all love about her.
– While the majority of the story revolved around Iko, we still got to see all of our favorite characters from the Lunar Chronicles. Iko is seriously awesome at kicking hybrid tail!

What I didn’t:
– The Wolf illustrations irked me. I don't know, it just wasn't at all what I pictured for him.

Final Thoughts:
– I'll definitely be picking up the next one when it comes out next year, but I haven't decided if graphic novels are for me not yet. I'm curious though, for people who do read graphic novels, how does this one compare?

Great read!

So awesome to be back in this world! I adore the Lunar Chronicles and this doesn't disappoint. The writing is on par with Meyer's previous work. We get to see more of our beloved characters and it's so much fun! The only reason I took off a star is only because of the art. In no way was this art bad, it's good in fact. It's just flat and with such a diverse cast (YAY!) all the characters look the same. Which is is odd to me. Maybe I'm disappointed because I'm spoiled by Saga's genius art or because I've seen such incredible fan art of this cast. Whatever the reason I wasn't impressed. The story is amazing though and I can not wait until the next one!

Lived Up To All My Expectationssss

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer, Douglas Holgate, and Stephen Gilpin - 5/5 stars

This graphic novel was so much more high-stakes than I anticipated! I figured that due to the fact that it was set after the main story ended and before Scarlet and Wolf's wedding, it would be a little slower and more character focused rather than plot-centric. And we did get lots of characterization, but we also got a high energy plotline!

This was lots of fun and I loved that we got a story more focused on Iko. She has been one of my favorite characters since the start and she honestly deserved this focus.

The art style was beautiful and fit the vibe of the Lunar Chronicles perfectly!

If you like graphic novels and are a fan of the series, definitely pick this up!!

Happily, ever after isn’t as simple as you’d might think.

Sure, Cinder is now the Queen of Lunar, but Levanna’s impact can still be felt. This is the most obvious with the monstrous wolf-like soldiers who still inhabit pockets of the earth. To bring things under control, Cinder’s best friend, the android Iko, travels to earth. But while her metal body is perfect against her enemies’ sharp claws and teeth, she finds herself facing a greater challenge when a new alpha emerges. His mission is simple: vengeance against Cinder.

While I greatly enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles, I couldn’t help but feel that by end, things had gotten so epic and grand that it had lost some of the personal touch that could be found in the earlier books. So, I was happy when I picked up Wires and Nerve to discover that it felt a lot like those earlier volimes in the series. To me, the greatest strength of the Lunar Chronicles were its’ characters, and Wires and Nerve does a great job of showing not just Iko’s story (although it certainly is important) but all the main character’s journeys after Winter. The artwork, by Douglas Holgate, is both clean and appealing, and I thought he did a great job bringing this world to life on a more visual level.

If you enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles, the graphic novel Wires and Nerve vol 1 is a must read! I’m so glad I picked it up.

Cute continuation of the previous series

4.5 stars

This story picks up right where The Lunar Chronicles ended and follows the story of the android Iko as she works to capture the hybrid wolf soldiers that are terrorizing Earth. Along the way, she teams up with familiar faces and discovers what her place is in the universe. With danger at every turn, the first installment in this graphic novel series will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.

I enjoyed seeing how the different characters from The Lunar Chronicles are fulfilling their new roles across the galaxy. While not many of the characters had character development, I think that readers do get to see more of Iko and Cinder struggling to find where they belong. While this is a book centered around Iko this didn't bother me too much, but I would have liked to see more depth added to the other characters as well.

The illustrations were also fantastic. Some of the panels were simplistic and didn't take long to look at, but others were detailed. I especially liked how intricate the action scenes were. I found myself looking at every inch of the panel to pick up on all the tiny details. I thought that the grey scale coloring was an interesting choice. I've only seen graphic novels in color, so this was a surprise, but it worked well for the story.

I felt like there was not much accomplished in the book besides taking down the wolf packs and setting up for the next book. I would have liked to seen the politics between Earth and Luna fleshed out more as this was a main plot point in the previous books. However, the second volume does sound promising, and I am eager to see where the story goes.

This series would be a great introduction for someone who is not familiar with graphic novels, although reading The Lunar Chronicles beforehand is vitally important. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels, science fiction, or a good action story.

Fell a little flat for me

3.75 stars

I wanted to completely love it and I only really liked it. I'm not sure why, maybe I'll have to wait a bit and reread it, maybe I just wasn't in the right state of mind to want to read it right now?

I liked seeing what happened to Cinder and everyone once she took over the crown. Definitely has spoilers if you haven't read the Lunar Chronicles. It does absolutely make me want to also go reread them!
