Simple and challenging enough for kindergarteners.

I wanted a reading comprehension material for my son who just started reading. This book is wonderful resource to supplement what he has been learning for the past few months.I love that it also has writing prompts which teaches the kids sentence building. The reading passages are short enough to hold his attention and has questions at the end of each passage to ensure that he understands what he reads. The book has five pages of exercise to do every week and there are a total of 36 weeks. The reading passages are so interesting that my son wants to do more of them every time he uses this book.we are already at week 10.I am looking to buy the first grade book soon.

Answers given to child in advance - Still a must have for beginners.

I purchased this book for independent seat work for my 5 year old.

PROS: The content is excellent to help reinforce phonics CVC words and getting my daughter started with reading comprehension. I also purchased 180 days of reading for 1st grade because the kindergarten level wasn’t challenging enough for my daughter. CONS: The answers is right at the top of each page which allow word picture match. My daughter quickly figured that out and simply glanced at the pictures and words and started to match. She wasn’t reading the words.

Please cover up the answers on the top so the child can check after they read and match.

The first grade level is strictly reading small paragraphs or stories then you answer the questions which I absolutely love.

If you buy this book I recommend you hide the top by gluing thick white paper on the top. Don’t glue the bottom so you can flip it up after the child reads the word and matched the picture.

I have updated my review to give this book all 5’s simply because all of the hard work by the author, editor and publishers.

This curriculum along with Spectrum Phonics (grade1 &2) and Smart Phonics helped build my 6 year old confidence and her reading skills.

She likes reading🤗🤗🤗😃😃😆😆

I purchased so many books and this serious is a must have. If you have just started looking for books let me save you some money.

Spectrum Phonics (grade 1, and 2;
If your child is just starting to learn phonics you might want to include grade K)

180 Days of reading (grade K and 1)

Smart Phonics- (this is for an advance student, books 4 & 5.

These books are expensive so don’t purchase levels 1 -3, buy the Spectrum books instead.

Reading (grade 1) by Flash Kids

180 Days of Spelling and Word Study (grade 1 & 2) .

I also have Spectrum Language Arts (K and 1). The kindergarten book has more examples. Sylvan Language Art level 1.

I have several other language arts books Because I’m trying to find the perfect combination for our family.

Before you introduce the first book watch several YouTube videos by Have Fun Teaching. Phonics and ABC. They Work!

My daughter LOVED this. She was in Pre-K4 and finished this book in a little over 2 months. This is the best book we have used for her. I reccomend doing 5 pages per day as a workflow. On each page you learn words that make up a story at the end. My daughter went from knowing about 50 sight words to reading "Green Eggs and Ham" independently in a matter of 4 weeks. If done everyday this book will skyrocket your kids vocabulary. About to order the 1st grade version. Great job, Great resource! I have not used the math version, but I just ordered it too. I will also review that when it comes.

Really helped 6yo with reading and comprehension

Homeschooled 6yo - struggled with reading and comprehension curriculum we use. He can read, but if you ask any questions it's obvious he wasn't comprehending it. Even though he was at the end of the program (about to enter 1st Grade program), I chose to purchase this K book to reinforce what he knows and help build on what he was struggling with.
I really like the layout. I can easily rip out 3 pages (1 week activity); he does all 3 pages at the same time because each daily lesson has a common theme. I've noticed a big difference in his comprehension and we are only half way thru the book.
It wouldn't, in my opinion, teach reading, but a great reinforcement when working with a curriculum. I will definitely get the next book!

Not beginner level of Kinder

My first book of "180 days" series is Math. My 5 year old son loves it, because it has "smile or sad face." If you have a right answer, you will have a smile shape. This 180 series is not for easy. If you are looking for a easy first step one, this is not the one. This may fit more later days of Kindergarten. But... I found that after COMMON CORE, the school homework getting as difficult as this one.

Not kindergarten level!

This book has great material. The problem is that there is no way a kindergarten child can complete these skills. The cd is great and very convenient, but it just isn't something I can use in kindergarten.

It is really well-structured and each page comes with a correct answer grading system which is based on smiley or sad faces (which my son loves)

The pages in this workbook are just long enough to actually learn something out of the one-a-day method but short enough not to frustrate a just-turned-4-year-old. It is really well-structured and each page comes with a correct answer grading system which is based on smiley or sad faces (which my son loves)!

Though we've only made it two weeks into the book, my son's reading abilities are getting better not because this book provides a lot of practice but because of it's ramping difficulty and his joy of being able to read better and better as he goes along. This is not meant to be a whole curriculum to reading but rather as a fun addition to formal education. It is additional practice, but what great practice it is!

More advanced than I would have preferred, not a lot of variety

This book offered a lot of opportunities for my son to practice his reading, but it didn't relate to the standard sight words so he struggled. And the activities were all the same, he got bored and frustrated. I wouldn't purchase for his level again.
