My roots in print to remeber

As a native american indian I well remember many of the lessons taught me by the elders but having this text refreshes my aging mind and helps me restore and bring back to life my roots and heritage.

Especially like the 12 Ethics, one for each month

I am enjoying this book. It's written as a daily message with a thought, a lesson and a bit of Native American history for each day. It also tells a very small bit about each season/direction and the associated color. What I like most is each month starts with an associated Ethic for following the Red Road. The following is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 5: the rather poor graphics and the limitations of the scope of the book, however for it's size and scope it is interesting and inspirational. I would recommend this book for "beginners" on the path of the Red Road.

Excitement turned to disappointment

I was excited to receive this book but the excitement turned to disappointment when I read the “Did you know?” for today’s date of September 10th. It states that cotton cloth was first invented by American Indians. As a researcher of facts I could not find anywhere that stated that this is true.

Not very spiritual based

This daily reading text is enjoyable, but not as spiritually based as the title lead me to believe. It's not a very good daily meditation book, but overall is enjoyable. The title is actually very misleading.

To reiterate what some others have said, there is ...

To reiterate what some others have said, there is far more history in this book than there is Native American ways of spirituality. the title should read a daily look at Native American history and some spiritual quotes.

Wasn't what I was expecting.

I was not expecting a day to day daily read of quotes of the day, but, that's what I got. Probably should look closer at the description before purchasing.

Good book for keeping "In Touch"

It IS much like a calander.. But, you either "get it" or you don't IMO.

You're either in touch with your surroundings (nature, people, etc and so on) or you're not..

I personally couldn't "wait" until the next morning to read each day at a time, and found myself reading it endlessly and referring back to significant dates in MY life, just to see what was "quoted" and how it may have related to that date or days.

I just bought another copy to send to a dear friend who, alot like me, doesn't want to be preached to, but has a deeper appreciation and respect for nature and people than most we come across.

If nothing else, I know he'll "get it" as I do, and he'll appreciate the words of the Native Americans that are quoted, as we seem to be less removed from them than imagined..

All in all.. An excellent read, IMO.

I like to celebrate that part of my ancestry

This was particularly poignant for me, being part Native American. I like to celebrate that part of my ancestry.
