A lovely book, with great photos and step-by-step tricks that are easy to follow

I'm so glad I bought this book. It may well be a section of a previous book, as another reviewer complains, but this is an advantage rather than a drawback, as if you are training a puppy you can work your way through all of these tricks in sequence, with a goal of finishing the book in sight. If you're training a puppy, you don't want difficult tricks meant for adult dogs cluttering up your schedule and making you feel overwhelmed. Also, the detail this book goes into for each trick, with step by step photos means the author has more space to be detailed and specific - a big bonus for first time puppy trainers.

I will buy the book for older dogs when my dog is an adult, but for now this book is perfect. I have a set amount of tricks, a plan to build on them each day and an end in sight. A brilliant book.

Good puppy book with step-by-step instructions plus plenty of pictures.

I bought this book for myself when we got our new puppy in August 2010. I've loved it and my puppy loves learning the tricks :) We have a couple of Kyra Sundance's other books as well, but this one is great for puppies. Some of the tricks are "beginner level" tricks, such as teaching them to walk across a board but not actually doing a teeter-totter since puppies shouldn't be doing a full teeter-totter yet. I liked it so much I bought a copy for my 12 year old cousin when she got a new puppy too. You will need a clicker and small, soft treats for training.

Easy to follow

My puppies (11 months young) know sit, down, and stay. I decided to try rollover as my first trick from the book. I followed the directions, trained twice a day with 5-10 attempts per puppy. And within two weeks, just as the book predicted, the command was mastered.

Worthwhile book for step-by-step instructions

This is a great book for a new puppy owner, offering step-by-step instructions on basic (and some not so basic!) 'tricks'. Suggested barriers for each trick let you know that your puppy's behavior is to be expected, and helpful tips offer a fix. Each trick is ranked easy/medium/hard, so you can determine what level your puppy is at and how much you can expect her to learn and understand.

I was a little concerned buying a book and not a video but it is great! Commands are broken down to smaller steps and pictures are great. Very visual and easy to follow.

Big whirling Tail Wags

I love Kyra's books. My dog has fun, I have fun, and learning begets more learning for both dog and human. A dog that can do cute tricks, is a dog that can also come when called, sit when greeting guests, stay off the furniture and probably walk nicely on a leash. Stupid dog tricks are actually really smart dog training.

I have forged a lovely relationship with a shelter shepherd who has learned from 101 Dog Tricks. 51 Puppy Tricks overlaps somewhat, but is age appropriate, and a fun reminder of what is too much for a pup.

love

within a wk of having book I have taught my 3month puppy to sit, shake hands, lay down, and currently working on rolling over. I am very happy with book and extra happy I don't really have to read hahahaa the book shows step by step pics which makes it easy to understand. The book goes over common problems with getting your dog to do trick and how to overcome it.

I am so happy with my purchase

Awesome book. My puppy was only 8 weeks and we were able to learn: sit, down, paw, stay, and roll over. "Touch" worked so much better than "come" for us. Try it. I think this also helped her learn some of our own cool tricks: high five, crawl, and tip toes.

Nothing you can't find on Google. Very uninformative. The pictures are colors are nice but I didn't buy it for a picture book.
