Why is this titled—and infuriatingly charming—Scottish man so determined to help her?For Evan, every day with Luz Alana makes him yearn for more than her ardent kisses or the marriage of convenience that might save them both. Very evocative writing!! I feel seen as a Black Latina!

I love the way Herrera writes. She really paints a picture with her words. You won’t be able to put the book down! It’s less cheesy than most romance novels while still including those drool worthy scenes. Also, her characters are not all skinny, tall, white women but are curvy, brown and black latinas who have power, money, ambition, and skill. Thank you Herrera for sharing with the world who we are and who we can be without failing to showcase how complex we can be! Herrera’s work features strong Black and brown women without feeding into the strong black woman stereotype or the unbreakable immigrant stereotype. Can’t wait to purchase my next Herrera novel!

Rich setting and unique characters

This was such a unique and lushly written historical romance. I love that we got to see some history outside of England and with a main star Dominican heroine and what will be a cast of heroines for future books with much needed diversity.

I also loved the hero, a broody Scottish hero gone for the heroine? Yes please.

It is very slow to get to the romance between our hero and heroine, about 40% in before the marriage of convenience happens and the romance itself is largely physically driven which is always disappointing for me. I would have loved to see more emotional development.

The unique historical details, sweeping story in different locations, diverse and fleshed out characters, were all fabulous. But it was lacking a powerful emotional connection. It just felt all physical and nothing else.

There was so much to love about this book but I'm sad the romance didn't land for me.

I am really looking forward to the other books in this series, this author is a beautiful writer and this book definitely stands out among the typical historicals.

If you love historical romance, you will LOVE this novel!

I absolutely adored this novel! Adriana Herrera has crafted a beautiful story with a diverse cast of characters. This exquisite novel draws you in from the beginning. Luz Alana and Evan's love story is beautiful and deliciously passionate! Herrera touches on themes such as racism, patriarchy, community, the meaning of family and of course AMOR! This novel definitely helped me get out of my recent reading slump. I highly recommend it!

A solid 3.5 stars but the diversity and steam makes it 4 stars

Lots of steamy love scenes in this book - even if you have to wait a bit for them. Lots of diversity and people with a Caribbean background. Good chemistry between the 2 leads Evan and Luz - lots of sexy banter. It will be interesting to see where this series is taken in subsequent books.

Lots of explicit action

The book is a fast reading. There's a lot of explicit frolicking in there. The heroine is quite likable.
