Rich, Engrossing, and Unique

I have never read a book like this- there are certainly no lords or ladies, and I loved it.
The writing is so atmospheric, you are immediately drawn into the rookeries and the time period. It's obvious Ms. Monroe did a great deal of research about every detail of the setting, yet she manages to weave it into the story deftly, in a way that does not overwhelm you, or detract from the story.
The relationship between Kate and Daniel is tumultuous, passionate, and realistic. Kate is hanging on to her memories of the past, and Daniel is trying to make her see how wonderful their future could be, if only they spend it together. The sense of imminent danger that is present throughout the story, as Kate and Daniel seek to right the wrongs of the past, is so thick that it's palpable. There were moments I craved an escape from the dark mood hanging over the story, and Ms. Monroe was an expert at breaking the tension in the right places, with humor, romance, or both.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance, but is looking for something different. A Dangerous Invitation won't disappoint.

A Different Regency

I gave this book three stars because I felt like it lost some of the story in the first half of the book due to the fact that all they did was think about sex. I feel like that took away from what could have been a great story. Just my opinion for what it is worth.

On to what the book is about. It is a good book and well write, different then most Regency's I have read. Kate is living a life she never thought that she would. Having grown up in her Father's shipping company and on the docks of London. She led a fairly privileged life until her Father died and she found out she was broke. She had to fend for herself as best she could so she became a fence and in charge of her own destiny. Then her fiancé Daniel O'Reilly who said he would be there for her and protect her but ran away when he was accused of murder returns and expects everything to be like it was. She agrees to help him clear his name and her Father's only to realize that she has been wrong about several things.
I loved the history about the resurrection men and the underbelly of London society. I also loved the characters in this book especially Atlas and the way the author was able to make you sympathetic to the thieves and prostitutes. I did feel like I was there as things were happening. This book has all the elements danger, history, love, and trials.

I received a Copy of this book from the author for an honest review

"A Dangerous Invitation" Reads Well

Just finished "A Dangerous Invitation" and was intrigued by both the story and the setting. The story takes place in a locale quite foreign to me, but the descriptions of the places are understandable (for the most part - once in a while I didn't know what a term meant), the characters are well-developed and the action flows quite well. One tiny thing bothered me -- the use of the phrase "end game." (Chapter 22) Sounded like a phrase more modern than the year 1832, so I looked it up. Usage was listed as 1880-1885, so it was just a little bit ahead of time for this story. Other than that, I think readers of historical romance will enjoy this story and I look forward to reading the next one.
