Description

Roy has written a very entertaining book about baseball's biggest characters. I enjoyed it very much, and you will too. Mike Shannon -xa0Spitball: The Literary Baseball Magazine My mother used to tell me, "If you can't say something good about someone (or something), don't say anything at all."xa0 Well, given that philosophy, Baseball Roundtable has xa0plenty to say (write) about Roy Lingster's book "A Game of Extremes ... 25 exceptional baseball stories about what happens on and off the field." I highly recommend this enjoyable baseball read. xa0xa0Lingster brings new lifexa0 and new perspectives (and twists) to some of baseball's best stories (and characters). David Karpinski - Baseball Roundtable A Game of Extremes written by Roy Lingster is an interesting tome. As a New York Mets fan the fact that he wrote about the Sidd Finch article made my day. xa0It's the first chapter. It's a must-read. Russ Cohan - Sportsology

13 of 25 are good

Half of the book was very interesting; the other half not so much so,

The stories were too short and many topics not interesting,

I loaned it to a friend. I’ll see if he had the same opinion.

Must read for Baseball enthusiasts or the casual fan!

Roy has to be one the most talented writers out there. This follow up to his book on approach to hitting was a wonderful read. As an avid Baseball enthusiast and high school coach I loved reading about the known stories but the ones I had not heard before was as good as any baseball book I’ve read (there has been many the past 30 years). I can’t wait to share some of them with my players. I really love that they are short (12-15 pages) and the amazing quotes from players I’ve grown up watching and collecting their cards to the ones I had never heard of. Thank you Roy for such an entertaining read on a favorite subject for me. This is a must read for either the hardcore fan or even a beginning fan.

To all basketball junkies!

Roy Lingster took us down memory lane with many of the unforgetable events and drama of this great game. From the fisrt shattered backboard by Darryl Dawkins, the most incredible Dunbar High School team, Cal Tech's winless for 26 years until that one sunny day, and whoever heard of the Harlem Rens? Lingster elevated this book to the academic level of basketball. If you are a basketball junky or a gym rat, this one is a must. If you are just a casual fan, you will be amazed of the many things that Lingster gave you a good glimpse. Happy reading!

A Fun Book

My wife gave me this book as a Christmas present. It's a fun read. I hadn't heard of the book prior, so she was taking a chance, but she knew I liked baseball stories and fun tidbits and such. This book is filled with them. Each chapter is a new story, and I think I knew only 2 or 3 of them. If you like baseball and trivia of the game, this will be a book for you. I highly recommend it. I'm no Oprah, so I doubt anyone runs out and buys this because of my review, but you know what, why can't I offer recommendations like Oprah. So go buy this, read it, and give a pleasant review. It's worth the money and the time invested in it. Hope we get a second book in a couple years.

Extraordinary baseball tales

I thoroughly enjoyed, "A Game of Extremes," which contains twenty five interesting stories about the national pastime. The stories include exceptional tales (and at times, the not so exceptional) from baseball's allure. Lingster includes fascinating tidbits on baseball greats such as Ty Cobb, Satchel Paige, Yogi Berra, and the very peculiar Rube Waddell. The author also presents stories of baseball abnormalities - such as the Golden sombrero, games ending on a balk, stealing first base, Merkle's boner, and much more! "A Game of Extremes" is an easy and amusing listen for any baseball fan.

Wow! What a treat for baseball fans

One of the trademarks of baseball is that there are incredible stories surrounding extraordinary and ordinary moments. This book shares stories of the extremes in baseball history across the generations and does so in a way that is fun, engaging, and entertaining. I appreciated the footnotes and citations at the end of each story so I could go down the rabbit hole a little more if I want to. Whether you are a fan well versed in baseball history or a casual fan who wants to explore the game a little deeper, this is a terrific read.
