Features & Highlights

Two Thumbs Down - Do Not Recommend

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of her other cookbooks, and cookbooks in general. I have dozens of them and use them regularly - and many of my other Anna Jones cookbooks are full of dogeared pages and sticky notes. I can make probably a dozen of her recipes by heart very easily.

However, if there is one cookbook on my shelf that I'd like a refund on, it's this one. I purchased it online without seeing it first, so I didn't get to flip through it first, I trusted that this one would be equally as amazing as her others. It's not. In fact, during my initial look through it I didn't identify one recipe that I wanted to make. They are all very b-rated feeling, with lots of recipes that have just one odd ingredient unlikely in your kitchen.

In an effort to recuperate my loses, I have tried several of the recipes, but they have been greeted with shrugs at my dinner table. Some seem far too complicated for a veggie side dish, others are just lame... one is for chips and dip: might as well just say "open Doritos, dip in something." Others are sad: putting toppings on a pita bread and baking it is not a recipe, it's a college kids post-night-out drunk food. A few wintery oven bakes that look okay, but likely something you'd figure out by looking at what you had in your fridge and don't require a recipe.

I don't think I'll buy another cookbook online again unless I've seen it in person. Super disappointed and will be dropping this one in the recycling bin.
