Well Done Eckhart!
As many other reviewers have noted, there is little in this book that is substantially different to what Eckhart wrote in his other books. They also said the same thing when he published "Practising the Power of Now", and "Stillness Speaks", but given that the message being delivered is supposedly the eternal and absolute truth, how could there be anything new?
It seems to me that with each subsequent publication Eckhardt is clarifying his message. With practice he is becoming a better writer and a better teacher. If you have read or listened to any of his previous works and feel that you've "got it" there is probably no point in buying this one. But if you are still in the process of learning how to attain, maintain, or deepen your sense of presence, you might find this a worthy addition to your library.
One of the other complaints that many negative reviewers have is that Eckhart is recycling or repackaging some of the wisdom of others. Is that a bad thing? Don't we all build upon the knowledge of others as well as that derived from personal experience? I don't think Eckhart has ever claimed to be the only wise man that has ever lived. And I do believe he is a wise man. He is one amongst many who have taken the time and effort to point the way towards what may be a better way of living,
I knew Eckhart many years ago as a young boy when he played on our football team in Wiesbaden, and even then he was an unusual fellow. He was quite a good athlete, but sometimes he was so totally absorbed in something other than the game that when the ball came towards him he would ignore it as completely as he did our exhortations to chase it. He never cared if we won or lost, and was more interested in playing practical jokes on his teammates in the locker room than in what happened on the playing field. One time we were playing in a field near a forest when one of the boys kicked the ball into the trees. Eckhart surprised us by running in after it, but what was even more surprising (or maybe not) was that he didn't come out again. Two other boys went in a few minutes later and found the ball, but Eckhart had disappeared.
I was surprised when I discovered that "Dopey," as we called him back then, was the same Eckhart Tolle who had written "The Power of Now," and in saying that I don't mean to disparage him. It's just that way back then he didn't seem special in any way at all, other than in his ability not to score or even care whenever we needed a goal.
Since then I have read all of his books and think they are wonderful, but there is one thing I don't understand. Why does Eckhart consider it important for the new consciousness or awareness to arise? He says that this must happen for the good of the planet, but the general message in his books is one of non-attachment and non-judgement, and unless I have got it wrong this sentiment of wanting to save humanity from its own folly seems to indicate both attachment and judgement. I suspect that most people would experience greater peace in their lives, and that the world would be a happier place if more of us were able to live in the now, but given that we will all die sooner or later, and it's likely that the whole species will eventually disappear, well before the earth is burnt to a crisp by our dying star in a couple of billion years time, what difference does it make?
Each of us, every butterfly, rock, raindrop, and super cluster of galaxies is an energy field, which is part of a larger energy field known to us as the universe which may well be part of another energy field and so on. We are all part of a Cosmos in which things appear to come and go. If the universe is the creation of God, or if the universe is God, what difference does anything make to anything, as it's all God?
Apart from that minor quibble, I believe that Eckhart has done a great service to humanity in writing these books. You don't have to agree with everything he says to derive some benefit from reading them. In my case they have helped in my quest to lead a peaceful life.
Well done Eckhart!

Mark D. Hyde, Author of "Coloring Outside the Lines: One Gay Man's Journey to Self-Acceptance & Spiritual Awakening
Eckhart Tolle's latest book, A New Earth is thought provoking, encouraging, and incredibly inspirational. Here is a man who definitely has his finger on the pulse of our emergence into a higher consciousness. Throughout the book, I was completely enthralled by his deep insight, clear explainations, and timely wisdom. The three points that stood out for me personally were the secrets to being at ease with life. They include remaining in a state of non-resistance, non-judgment, and non-attachment. True peace is found in the practice of complete surrender to whatever is going on around us. Other profound insight that I took away from the reading of his book were the three states to real happiness: acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm. Tolle concludes his book with the most eloquent term for this new species, he calls us frequency holders. May I be found faithful in doing my part in bringing about this much needed shift in human consciousness.

Superbly written!
This is one of few books that realistically defines, identifies and fully explains the content and function of the "ego". Tolle is well-spoken and able to teach us in a sane and understandable way. He brilliantly defines how and why many of our human behaviors are driven by the ego and helps us see what is happening "behind the scenes" of our own conciousness.
A very timely book in the current age of awakening. . .I will read it again and recommend it highly to anyone seeking understanding of why we do what we do and how to stay sane in a "world that has gone mad!"

Letting of of "ego" - spirituality - connectedness
Absolutely loved this book. It was my first introduction to the writings of Eckhart Tolle and I was blown away. The person who recommended this book to me, told me to take it slow, and I did, which I now recommend to everyone attempting to read this book. Eckhart Tolle's writing is not easy. He uses complex words and makes up word definitions that you need to remember. That's a small drawback but also a necessary compromise in order to get his point through to the reader. This book is a continuation of his book "The Power of Now" - one of the best spirituality books, which I also highly recommend. Frankly, I would recommend "The Power of Now" more than "A New Earth" and I would definitely reading them in the order written (something which I did not do).
This book is about spirituality, connectedness, peace and living in the moment. The purpose of this book is to help you recognize the "ego" in your daily life and to let it go. The author continues his work from previous books and takes it a step further. While his previous work was more focused on you as an individual, this book talks more about how the "ego" is ruining the world and about how, by letting go of our ego, we can live in a more connected world. Every page is filled with wisdom, which is another reason why I recommend taking this book slowly.

Its a blessing...
I LOVE THIS BOOK....It is challenging me to grow up spiritually. I also find it helpful in understanding the Bible better. I think that there have been many enlightened people throughout history. Jesus was one of them and the main one IMHO. I am a christian and I find this book is opening doors for me mentally and spiritually. I recommend this book if like Neo in the Matrix , you feel that there is more to life than you have been told, and you feel the need to be awakened! Thumbs up!

Eckhart Tolle rocks!
This book is amazing. I feel like this book brings to light a new logic to life. He portrays spiritual wisdom in a new light. No church, no higher power, only the full acceptance of your emotions and how you feel right now. Definately a good read.

Great book but I neeed the 'Dummy' version
Is there a "New Earth for Dummies" version? I thought I would devour this book as I have similar books, but after a few pages I found my mind wandering. Early Alzheimers or not enough coffee? I think it's a great book, just not for me.

This is not a book. It's our key.
I don't look at this mature teaching from Eckhart as a mere book. It's a blueprint. A sign post. A key to help us unlock the next stage of human evolution.
Why such high praise? Because despite what our egos may tell us, this gets to the basic truth of why we are here and how at peace we can be, if we only will say yes to this moment. I got the CD version so I can play it again and again, since my threatened ego does not always allow the wisdom to come in.
Can a book change the world? If any can, it's this one.
