Waste of time

Ukh. What a waste of time.
I read the Tao of Pooh and had hoped for something a little more insightful and inspiring than this crap. It was just...so...meh. Yeah. Meh is exactly how I would describe it.

It's a very small book, with quite a bigger than average font, but it took me a couple of days to finish only because it would put me to sleep every time I started a page. It comes off as slightly preachy, with the writers using a very childlike tone with the reader, making you feel like you're 7 years old and sitting in a classroom. The use of Pooh was so unnecessary to convey the messages they were trying to convey, and the whole "meditate" and "live in the present and here and now" was riddled, and I mean RIDDLED, with cliches.

Do not recommend this AT ALL.

Great introduction to mindfulness for KIDS

As an adult who has read, studied, and practiced Zen Buddhism, this is not a book I would ever find interesting for myself. However, I've struggled with introducing mindfulness to my kids (ages 3 and 5). Many books geared towards kids (such as Breathe like a Bear) all focus on doing guided meditations and I don't care much for guided meditation. My kids know Pooh and this book has been a wonderful introduction for them to the practice of mindfulness in daily life! Each chapter starts with a little story about Pooh (these actually can form a single story if you jump from one to the next) with a short poem that Pooh tells himself. I may incorporate some of the author's simple practice advice later on, but for now we just read the Pooh sections which are very nice short stories about using mindfulness as you go through your daily life.
