NOPE

I received this as an unfortunate gift from the mother in law. I have to keep it since she gave it to me (she will look next time she's here), but under other circumstances this would go straight into the trash.

This is, by far, the worst cookbook I've ever laid eyes on. I'm a pretty good home cook, and I try to cook healthy and fresh for the most part. If that sounds even remotely like how you are, please just go. And don't look back.

I looked through the entirety of this book looking for a recipe that didn't use prepackaged items, and there were next to none. Go buy all flavors of condensed soups, bottled sauces and dressings, and cool whip and you will have most of what you need to cook these "recipes." I'm appalled by the unhealthy food in here. I'm pro cream and butter, but we are talking preservatives, HFCS, and all other sorts of icky canned food problems. Oh, and about a dozen Jello based desserts. Mmmmm..... Nope.

I will literally never open this book again. I care about my family THAT MUCH.

Wonderful meal plan ideas using GREAT recipes!

There are so many good things about this cookbook!
-First of all, great recipes. That's a must for a good cookbook! Most of the recipes are very easy and require many ingredients that you might already have on hand.
-Secondly, two words for you: Meal Plan. I have a terrible time trying to meal plan in my life, but I know that if I don't, I will spend way too much money at the grocery store, and we will still not have great meals. I LOVE that I now have a tangible cookbook full of great recipes that I can plan into every week of the year. It's genius!
-The next thing I love is that along with every main dish, they have paired a side dish or two and even a dessert. This is revolutionary for me because I find lots of great recipes to try online, but sometimes a good side dish for that meal is not always easy to come up with.
-Another thing that makes this a great cookbook is the bright and clear photos of each recipe. Sure a cookbook does not have to have pictures of all the recipes, but I certainly I am more likely to try a recipe if there is a picture of it.
-Lastly, the Six Sisters always put a bonus in their books (I also have their 12 Days of Christmas cookbook), they include fun ideas for bringing your family together, especially around the dinner table and other traditions. They give you some fun ideas of how to mix things up and do something a little different with your family.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone! I am really excited to try out all these new recipes throughout the whole year!

Perfect for families!

As a mom of 5 children and the cook in a busy household, this cook book really fits the bill. So often, even cook books designed for families with children, contain so many recipes that picky eaters will avoid. This book is completely different. There are 52 meals (entree, side & dessert), and of those 52, we will likely eat 50 (or probably skip just the side or entree of those 2!).

I love how the meals are together. I love how every item in the book has a full color photo. The stories and extras are nice too.

I have a lot of cookbooks I have collected over 16 years, and this fits in my top 2!

For those who say the recipes have a lot of sugar - I'm not sure where you are getting that. Maybe if you made only all the desserts? There are several light desserts as well. And to the reviewer who complained about it containing desserts - why did you buy it? It advertises 52 meals - each including a dessert.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This cookbook does not have a bad recipe in it. Everything I have made is so good you seriously cannot wait to make it again. I love love love the photos on every page there is nothing better than seeing what your making. We eat with our eyes first and taste second. This cookbook delivers on all levels. Every single one of my girlfriends is getting a copy for Christmas. I cannot wait to try the other cookbooks these genius ladies have written.

An improvement from the last!

I bought these girl's last cookbook and I was not impressed, I think I made 2 recipes from it. I received this one as a gift and I was apprehensive, but this one is an improvement! I like the menu planning with the meal and side dish as that's what I struggle with the most. I don't make a dessert to go with every meal but the ones they have look pretty good.
My main complaint is that many of the recipes seem to have a lot of unneeded calories. Do mashed potatoes need a full container of sour cream AND cream cheese? What's the point of a veggie dip when it is 90% mayonnaise?
But, overall, a good cookbook with mostly great recipes and a huge improvement over their last book.

Helpful meal planning with a lot of fun ideas to start family traditions

This is a must have for busy moms and working people who don’t have a lot of time to figure out a meal plan that is balanced and very tasteful recipes. I’ve used many of the ideas already and I have not been disappointed once. I highly recommend this book. It’s not only a we’ll develop menu planner but it offers a lot of fun ideas for kids and families to do that will make wonderful happy memories for all. I plan on buying some more as gifts to a few young, working moms in my family. I have no doubt they are going to love it.

Pleased, will buy more of this brand

I enjoy a good cookbook, even in these days where you can find anything on the internet. This one is really good. Reasonable ingredients, not some weird exotic stuff you can only find in the largest cities. Reasonable time to prepare. Had the family sit down and pick out something for us to try, and everybody found things they want to try! A mom's dream!

Fabulous cookbook for any kitchen or cook!

All of the Six Sisters books are fabulous, and this one is no different! The recipes use ingredients that most every kitchen has in hand. The cookbook is set up in meals instead of in sections like other cookbooks (e.g. Main dishes, side dishes,etc.). Each set of recipes go nicely together to make a complete meal. Of course, you can use any recipes out of order to your liking, too, but it just makes the book more versatile. This is a great cookbook and would also make a great gift.

and we really like that one but this cookbook was disappointing

I have the Six Sisters seasonal cookbook -- all the women in my family do, it became a family present one year, and we really like that one but this cookbook was disappointing. I didnt find anything to be new or creative and I hardly use it. I think it would be good for someone who is starting to learn how to cook but for myself, who has cooked and baked with family members for years, it was a disappointment.

Love it! Simple tasty recipes that are meant for busy families

I love cookbooks and I love trying new things for my family for dinner but I work full time and I'm a wife and mother... so I don't always have time to cook a 20 step completely by scratch dinner. There are a few reasons I love this cookbook over others I have....
1) There are pictures of the food. Sounds simple but I like to know what the food is supposed to look like when I am done.
2) It uses items I actually have in my kitchen! Or at the bare minimum its common ingredients or things easy to find at the store. Too many of the recipe books out there expect me to have 15 different spices, uncommon baking flours or powders, exotic cheeses, etc.
3) Everything is focused on dinner. I don't cook gourmet breakfast or lunch meals in our house... so those are always lost on me.
4) It gives you whole meal suggestions.. a main dish, veggie side and a dessert. Often I can't think of what to pair with a dish so this help give me suggestions on what to make with it.
