ALTER EGO + 1 : Livre de l'élève + CD-ROM + Projets (French Edition)

We use this book&CD for our level one French Class. It is garbage; beware. There is no method associated with this book and grammatical rules and verb introductions are haphazard. If you haven't had some French before this book will kill your desire to learn it. Easily 50% of our class struggles with this. Add to that the inappropriate word introductions that are far too advanced for a beginning level course and the lack of repeatable, useful oral practice and you'll be spending a lot of time getting nowhere. I consider my French teacher excellent and she works to fill in the gaps but when it comes time for homework or self practice - well you have to be the type who can spend 2hrs per night and have access to google translate to gather both meaning and some help with pronunciation.

Even my native French prof doesn't likes this book. The book is great in culture but bad in explanations , the prof ends up giving the explanations herself. The book also lacks tables and organization. By my part, I learn by tables and my German book has a lot of them , so it makes me easier to learn. Unfortunately , this is the book that my language school recommends and my prof has no authority to give another book

Not many people use a cd anymore. Would be better if it was in a music pdf file

This is a pretty good French book. It comes with a CD which I fell like nowadays is a little obsolete, specially for MAC users like myself. But the book also offer an online version of the audios which is great. I have been studying French for about 3 months now and my teach uses this book. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

As an adult intermediate beginner in an acclaimed language school, my experience with this book/method was frustrating and unpleasant. An inordinate amount of time was spent on "hello and goodbye," doorways, hallways, stairways, and the names of Countries. The Continents were referred to without any scientific or logical explanation. For the sake of brevity, I will forego further further examples. This book is so weird. Look elsewhere. Bon chance.

I'm a French tutor and I really like this book to teach. I would say if you're a student, this is a great learning tool, you just need guidance from a teacher since everything is written in French.
I've had students going from complete beginner to advance levels just using the alter ego + books. I'm very satisfied!
