Great read….pleasently surprised at the depth

I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of this book & how much I enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure how well I would be able to relate to the farm life, however the emphasis on family loyalty, struck a chord with me and I was instantly hooked. This book had it all—sweet romance, compelling mystery, & insight to the hard choices we make when family is involved! Great read! Highly recommend. 5 stars!

Corrie Lancaster leaves the life she had built for herself and returns to the family farm after a tragic accident leaves her dad with a brain injury and unable to man the farm. It’s harvest time when Corrie returns, however she is short staffed—that is until the Tuttle brothers step up & offer to help run the farm. Luke Tuttle, was “the one” in Corrie’s mind, until he left her broken-hearted. Corrie is still angry & hurt and the way Luke ended the relationship and is having a hard time putting the past behind her. Luke’s older brother Aaron, is a rock and seems to be there every step of the way for Corrie, regardless of the circumstances. While there is no denying the attraction between the two, Corrie isn’t sure if she can put her heart in the hands of another Tuttle and trust that she won’t end up devastated once again. Excellent read! Highly recommend.

A good blizzard book

I purchased this book, along with A Place to Call Home, from the author at a vendor fair. (I'm a sucker for new authors.) Amber Waves of Grace is a well written book with an excellent story line. It is my favorite of the two books, although the other book was a good read as well. Many people would say "it's a good summertime read while lounging on the beach". I am a Dakota girl and this book was a good read in the middle of our January blizzard.

A wonderfully heartwarming romance that deals intelligently with important issues.

I read Amber Waves of Grace at the request of the author, Jessica Berg, in exchange for an honest review. I expected a typical romance novel with some inspiration thrown into the mix. Was I in for a surprise! This book has romance and inspiration, and so much more. I was especially impressed with the way Ms. Berg addressed current social issues.

Main character, Corrie Lancaster, is a reporter in Sioux Falls, SD, but moves back home to run the family farm after her dad suffers a debilitating accident. Can she handle it? You bet she can, even when her hired hand abruptly quits, then demands she sell the farm to him. He thinks she can’t run a farm on her own.

Then there is Luke, her high school boyfriend who betrayed and abandoned her at the worst possible time. He is now the local minister, and he wants back into her life, but Corrie is attracted to his older brother, Aaron.

Corrie’s family takes in Violet, a frightened young woman with car trouble. Turns out she is pregnant and running from an abusive partner. She becomes like family to the Lancasters.

The story is beautifully heartwarming with true-to-life characters. They are flawed human beings like all of us. They make mistakes, and learn from them. The way issues are handled is to be applauded. I highly recommend this book. If you enjoy intelligent, heartwarming stories, you will love Amber Waves of Grace.

What made The Grumpy Book Reviewer grumpy?

Not much:
• incorrect preposition usage: in vs. into;
• incorrect verb usage: was vs. were.

Loved the characters, loved the story

In Amber Waves of Grace, Corrie Lancaster has returned home to run her family’s farm after her father was injured in an accident, leaving him unable to run it. Under much pressure to keep the farm running and her family supported, Corrie finds help in Aaron Tuttle, a neighbor and the older brother of her high school boyfriend, Luke. As they work together to harvest the fields, feelings start to develop for both, but Corrie believes that Aaron will never be able to overlook the mistakes of her past, and Aaron believes that he is too much older than Corrie for her to be interested in him. As the two work together and their relationship continues to deepen, things start happening on the farm that both threaten Corrie’s family and lead Corrie to believe that she may not be strong enough to carry the burden of running the farm. Can Corrie and Aaron find out who is behind the threats and stop him before the Lancasters lose everything? And will Corrie and Aaron be able to overcome their fears and admit their feelings?
I really loved Amber Waves of Grace. Corrie was so easy to like and relate to, because she was flawed and real. She feared rejection because of past mistakes, and I think a lot of people can identify with that fear. She was emotional and sometimes dorky. Aaron was also a very well written character. He was emotional, too, but he tried to keep it in, as guys do. He was thoroughly confused by Corrie’s emotions, and at times was ready to give up, except that he knew deep down that he would do anything for her. The story itself was exciting, and moved along at a good pace. I don’t typically re-read books, but this is one I will go back and read again.

Great story

This was a great book. The perfect mix of suspense and heartwarming stories. The author developed not only the story, but the characters with care, and the story was compelling to the end. The subplot of Corrie’s parents, and the struggle to recapture marriage after a traumatic incident was a nice add to the story. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a great read.

Coming home

Corrie moves back home to make life easier for her family. In the process she complicates her own life. Her family own a farm and they need a hand. Corrie may have left home but old feelings are still ripe. Her ex boyfriend older brother is now working on the land but he might not be the only one interested.

There is quite a lot going on with this book. Family, potential love matches and a future back at home.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
