Features & Highlights

  • A horse breeder by trade, Corbin Jonquil is more at home in the stables than in the ballroom of his sprawling estate. Corbin is the quietest of the Jonquil brothers and has always faded into the background, contentedly unnoticed. When a mysterious young widow, Mrs. Clara Bentford, moves into the neighborhood, however, Corbin quickly comes to realize that being noticed has its advantages. But how to catch the eye of the lady? According to his brothers, Corbin need only make a few simple changes to transform himself into the object of any woman's desire dubious advice, indeed. Following a series of misadventures, Corbin and Clara slowly lower the facades behind which they've been hiding, leaving Corbin shocked by the horrors that haunt the woman he's coming to care for so ardently. When the menace of Clara's past threatens to tear them apart and tensions mount, will the couple have the courage to fight for the promise of forever?

Fans of Sarah's other books will love this one! If you haven't read any others, you'll still like it! :)

I have read every book by Sarah M. Eden, and I have enjoyed them all! However, this one ranks as one of my favorites!! I really thought the character of Corbin was unique...not the suave, confident hero you see in so many regency books, nor the aloof, tortured hero, but, for me, a more realistic man! Sarah's early scenes with Corbin and Clara were cringe-worthy and amusing (to readers), but totally believable. It's kind of refreshing to have characters who get flustered and tongue-tied...honestly, how often do people really banter back and forth without saying something totally embarrassing? I also found the actual romance to be sweet and genuine. I really like the interweaving of story lines and characters from Sarah's stories as well...it makes me want to go back and reread earlier books from Sarah! Very sneaky, Sarah! :)

This is my opinion of course, but I thought this was Sarah's best after Seeking Persephone. Maybe even better. I just read it last night, and I stayed up late to do so, so my brain might still be a little frazzled. I love the clean romance genre...and I think this is a great example of why. I would definitely recommend reading some of Sarah's earlier novels before this one (you might be wondering who people are or why they are acting the way they are acting), but I also believe it isn't totally necessary. This book stands alone as well.

LOVED CORBIN!!!

I will blatantly admit that I am a Sarah Eden addict! I especially love this series of books about the Jonquil brothers. This is the 3rd book specifically about them (If you count Crispin it is the 4th! His book is the first, and he is just accepted as one of the family) And this love story is fantastic!

My heart melted for the honest, yet stuttering Corbin. With the large, gentle hands and even bigger heart, and who chooses his words so carefully. I was thoroughly embarrassed by his attempts at following his brothers' advice! Oh, and the frying pan! It is so good to see the honest loving relationship they develop. My heart melted specifically with his interactions with her children.

The Duke of Keilder is one of my favorite characters in her books and it was fabulous to see him again here! Really I am dying to know more about His and Persephone's family!!! I loved that my favorite characters from her other books make appearances...even if only referenced by name.

I know it is only one small page, but, my favorite line is when an almond eyed beauty sweeps into the room smoozing all of the Jonquils present, (and insulting Jason (Corbin's twin))...then introduces herself to Corbin saying "Ahh, Senor Corbin! As you can see, I have met your evil twin!" I can't wait for that book to hit the shelves! And Charlie! I can't wait to see who will win his heart!

I loved this book and read it nearly all the way through in less than 24 hours! I have since read it two more times. Like I said, I am addicted! Sweet, clean, heart rending romance about finding confidence, trust, true love and safety.

Favorite Regency after Jane Austen

I adore this book. Reading it is like being snuggled in a warm blanket. She handles romance so tenderly, family relationships so supportively, and humor so sweetly.
I also appreciate how clean this book and all of her books are. No hidden mines, just a sweet romantic story.

I really liked this.

I really liked this book and I think getting to know Corbin was the main reason. I totally understood how he felt when he had a hard time speaking. I'm the opposite, I talk too much when I'm nervous. Maybe I'll give his method a try. I liked how patient and sweet and kind he was. The author did a great job describing how a family is, both the Jonquil family and Clara's family. Both are totally different families but Eden seemed to understand.

Really sweet and easygoing novel

Really sweet and easygoing novel. It didn't engage me as much as some of the other books in the series, but it was still worth the read. The romance was a little slow and I was disappointed that the villains never seemed to be as much of a real threat as they could have been. The best part of the book was definitely the when the Duke of Kielder (From the Lancaster series) made a surprise cameo. He always was my favorite of Sarah Eden's characters.
