Description

From School Library Journal PreS—A perfect book for families on the go. It opens with a child in a car and the words "Vroom! Vroom!/From the backseat,/what do you see?" and proceeds to move through the alphabet via road signs—A is for "Airport," B is for "Bike Route," and C is for "Children at Play." The bold graphic images pop on the blacktop backgrounds, with the capital letters and the broken line in the center on the pages appearing in white. Great for encouraging observation skills and visual literacy. This board book belongs in every car seat. Not a favorite

Not all signs recognizable. Not all content applicable for a 2 1/2 year old.

Very unique

Very unique. We got this as a board book in our book box. I think this is for children a bit older than our young toddler. However for children a bit older that are old enough to pay attention to signs on the road, I think this is a fun backseat book. However, it is a simple ABC book if you have plenty of those I would probably skip it. Some of the signs are a little forced to get every letter of the alphabet, for example they use “quack” for the “q” featuring a duck crossing sign.

I will hold onto this until my child is old enough to enjoy.

Not a fan of this book

This book is uninteresting to a one year old and I don’t understand why they would care about road signs at this age. We are not a fan at all.

Sturdy book.

Used it for a preschool unit on signs. A plus it used the alpabet....we always need more ways to practice our alphabet.

Road Signs with Simple Text

No story, no cars, just literal traffic signs and their meanings. Our kiddos liked matching them to the wooden traffic signs and plastic accessories that go with our train set and hotwheels collection. Most of the signs are just black and yellow, on a plain black background. Even with the bold color contrast, the lack of background imagery and minimal text prevents it from being overstimulating. There were several common signs that we wished were included, like the RR "Railroad Crossing" sign was not chosen to represent its letter. But all of them make sense and we enjoy reading it.

Q for Duck Crossing

Thought this would be the perfect book to leave in the car to entertain my 2 year old. Some of the images associated with the letters are confusing. For instance, Q has a duck crossing sign, so my kid says “Q for duck,” which isn’t an unreasonable conclusion based on the picture, rather than Q for quack. There are other similar examples scattered throughout the book. Not enough to make me throw the whole thing away (yet), but we use it cautiously.

Lack of Color is Great for Infants

I choose this book for my three year old Mason, because I am doing homeschool preschool with him. We are learning about the alphabet using books and learning how to write currently. So I chose this book because it's ABCs but also he loves anything that deals with cars, trains, and dinosaurs. "Backseat A-B-See" by Maria van Lieshout, is a great book that has very little colors which is great for little kids especially babies. It teaches kids about the ABCs but also about different signs that you would see while you are riding in the backseat of a car. As a mom I really liked the simpleness of the pictures and how they used each letter. Even though some of the signs is a stretch but it works. My son really liked it and would try to say each sign as we read the book. Also would say the letters through out the book. Cassie (7 weeks old) loved looking at the simple pictures and the lack of colors helped her as she can't see in color as of right now. I recommend reading this book with small kids.

Great pre-reading skills. Preschool 3-5 year olds loved it while learning about signs.

Looked used

Great book but it came looking somewhat used. Scratched and sticky cover. Not so thrilled since it's a gift but oh well.
