Nice map,but.....

Nice map and does what it's supposed to do. However, it doesn't use a standard scale so you can't us a military style protractor to locate specific coordinates. I'm sure most people don't care, but a few will.

Great Map If You Are Planning A More Extensive Viewing

This is a fantastic and essential map if you are planning on visiting the southern section of the Park. Offers some secret 4 wheel drive entrances into the Stronghold District that would otherwise not be known to travelers.

Wrong Map Sent

I had the same experience as the previous reviewer and recieved Saguaro NP instead of Badlands NP. I immediately sent back the incorrect map and am still awaiting the arrival of the map I ordered. Since this has now happened to at least 2 people I feel that there must be some sort of coding error with Amazon with this particular product. When it does get I'm sure I'll love it as I have every other Trails Illustrated map I own.

Update 1/4/13
Received the correct map on the very next day. It is exactly what I was looking forward to and I am very happy with it. My compliments to Amazon for getting the correct map to me with next day shipping.

Overall good quality but lacks detail

I was disappointed in the lack of detail in this map. It is a good summary but lacked topographic details that I was hoping for. I will still need USGS quad maps. Overall this is a good quality map made of materials that should stand up to harsh conditions.

An accurate and detailed map that is nearly indestructible

This map is all you will need to explore the badlands. Yes, I am well aware that there are GPS units available that are accurate to the foot, but there is something to be said for spreading out a map on the table (or ground while on the trail) and discussing the trails you are following with your hiking companions. That assumes of course that you have perfected the art of reading a topographic map. The fact that this map is nearly indestructible makes it even better. We used it to cover our lunch during a brief downpour, then shook it out and folded it back up and tossed it in the pack none the worse for wear. You cannot do that with a GPS.

Four Stars

It is a great overview. You will have to buy USG style maps for true navigation.

If you cant read a USGS topo map - this will work.

Its a good map if you are not used to using USGS 7.5 minute Topo Quads. Topos would be better, but its good enough to get you around the back country of the Badlands. However the Badlands are idiot simple to navigate in with map and compass. You always can see the Pinnacles and they provide a bomb proof navigational reference.
