A very intense, mysterious YA novel.

Originally posted on my blog: The Bibliophile's Corner

Cover Talk: I really love this cover. I do wish it were on a dock, because that would make more sense. But the cover still captures the haunted tone of the book and the mystery. I definitely love it.

First Impressions: I actually don't remember where I heard about this book. Or if I even heard about it. I bought it on a whim because the cover was pretty and the synopsis sounded really different than what I'd been reading.

First Few Chapters: The first page had me hooked. And after the first chapter, I seriously did not want to put this book down. Jumping from memories to present day was really interesting and I loved

Characters: Elizabeth, or Liz, is the stereotypical spoiled, rich girl on the surface. Clothes, shoes, make-up, and diet is everything to her. But when she "wakes up" to see her body floating in the water, her priorities start to change. Watching her friends and family lives get turned upside down after her death, Liz begins to see them in a whole new light. I really loved seeing Liz's character change and evolve during this book.

Alex is another teen who died also in "between" worlds. For a year after the hit and run that took his life, Alex has been watching everyone's lives move on. When Liz shows up, the two of them team up to solve their deaths. Alex is wonderful. In life, he was a nobody. He was not popular and had to work to help him family with money. His snark and sarcasm make him my favorite character in this novel, hands down.

Richie was Liz's boyfriend. At first I didn't really like him and I thought Liz's frequent declaration of love for him was annoying. But as the book went on, I really started to believe in Richie and Liz's love. It made me sad that Richie made a few mistakes, but overall, I really love this character.

Josie is my least favorite character. I just really didn't like her and her personality just really irritated the hell out of me. She loved being popular and would do anything to be popular. As Liz's stepsister (rumor has it, she is a half sister), they were very close. Their friendship never made sense to me, but opposites tend to attract.

Liz and Josie's other friends that were on the boat each had their moments too. Caroline was the most realist and the most down to earth. Mara and Topher were a rather interesting couple, always together and a little bit too dramatic for my taste. Especially Mara.

Plot: This book is absolutely wonderful. There is such a complex web of mystery to untangle and it was impossible to put down. At first, I wasn't sure if I would like this book. It centers around a group of rich kids who are spoiled, entitled, and just downright mean. They drank, smoked, and did everything under the moon without ever having to face the consequences.

After Liz's death, it was really interesting to see how everyone in Liz's life reacted. I really wanted to shake some sense into her friends, but as spoiled, rich kids, none except Richie even seemed to really change. Her family was the hardest to see in the aftermath, especially her father. After losing his first wife, it just seemed so unfair that he lost his daughter too.

There were quiet a few twists to this book. Some I saw coming, some I never saw coming.

Final Thoughts: I absolutely loved this book. Any fan of mystery and ghosts, will really enjoy this book. It was beautifully written and the story was very well done. I will definitely be reading more of Jessica Warman's books.

Great YA read!

Bought this book at a garage sale for $1z when I finally got around to it, I assumed it would be one I would struggle through. In the beginning…I was still leaning that way, but I was wrong! This was one I walked around reading and couldn’t put down. I couldn’t wait to finish it, but for all of the right reasons! One of the best $1’s I’ve spent.

She’s this perfect girl with a perfect life

This is a story about a girl named Elizabeth, who likes to be called Liz. She’s this perfect girl with a perfect life. But it’s so far from anything thats perfect. The whole story is from Liz’s POV. So the story starts off with Liz waking up from a sound on the yacht, that her and her friends were celebrating for her eighteenth birthday. When she goes to check it out ,she sees her own dead body in the water. At first she doesn’t believe that she is dead but a guy name Alex who was her classmate before he died, convinces her. Together they try to solve this mystery on how she died. Liz doesn’t remember anything that happened before she died. So as tries to remember, she travels back in her memories and try to figure how did she end up here. What she finds out is that her life is not what she thought it was. It wasn’t as perfect as it all seemed.

Wow. This was an amazing book. I was completely moved by how great this book was.  Every page had me hooked.  While Liz was trying to find out how and why did she die, I was right there with her, trying to figure out the pieces. Everything came together so brilliantly. This book was basically about forgiving yourself. It was so sad that I almost cried at the end- on this one scene that takes place, right before Liz finally lets go. I finished this book in 5 hours. I was that hooked!

This book was AMAZING!!

This book was AMAZING!!!

I will agree that it was very slow to start, I even considered putting it down, but once the book started I could not stop reading. I read majority of the book in 1 sitting it was so good. I finished the book a few days ago and I am still thinking about. It really tugged at my emotions and I felt so bad for Richie.

It is a different kinda "Mystery" read then what I usually like, but I would highly recommend this book.

I loved that it's an ending you can piece together yourself ...

This book will not bore you. Not a single moment of it. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that a lot of it is flashbacks to important points in her life. Either way, every page brings you closer to the jaw dropping ending. I loved that it's an ending you can piece together yourself with subtle hints starting from the very beginning.

Liz is pretty much you're stereotypical popular girl realizing quite how awful she was. I didn't particularly mind this as much as her realistic-ness. She counts her calories very closely, to approximately 1200 a day, which the minimum amount a girl needs to survive. She says she runs for hours. There is no way she has energy after running for hours and only eating a small amount of calories. I know the point is she's supposed to be wasting away, but there is no way she could run day after day without fail with that kind of calorie intake.

Let me just say I loved Alex. I love characters with sass and he never backed down to Liz. He's getting to say everything to the Liz he would have loved to when they were alive. The thing I loved about him the most is a major plot spoiler, though.

I liked Caroline, the fifth wheel of the group, so to say. She was the most relatable character, even if it was a little. Topher and Mera were likable enough.

I was on the fence about Josie because the mystery surrounding her is fairly easy to piece together. She was a good character though. I liked the mystery surrounding who her father was the whole book. I really had no idea for that one.

The twists and turns and drops are endless in Between. But, there just wasn't anything that made it a wow! book, just a really good one.

Really enjoyed this book

I don't know where to start with this review. This book was awesome. I mean, really, really awesome. I don't know why I didn't know about this book sooner or why I didn't read it sooner!

Liz is one of those main characters that you love to hate. She is one of those "popular" girls. What makes this different is that after she dies, she gets stuck with someone she and her crowd used to make fun of. Yeah, major twist in the story there! She is written wonderfully and by the end of the novel, you will be sympathetic toward her.

The plotline was very unique. I was really happy with it. If a book can have a few twists and turns in it that I don't see coming, it's wonderful. This book had many of those twists and turns. I figured out only one of them toward the middle of the book, but besides that, I was as clueless as Liz. I still can't get over how unique it was and how it was presented, as far as the timeline of it goes. I don't want to get into any spoilers, but it was just wonderful.

Though the subject is a serious one, this is a nice, fast read that everyone will enjoy. I am recommending this to everyone. Get your hands on it as quick as you can, it really is wonderful!

Vivid!

This tale about learning lessons too late is a haunting one. Popular Eliizabeth Valchar straddles the line between privileged brat and abandoned soul. Her supporting cast is expertly illustrated, and while none of the characters is entirely likable, I LOVE a tortured, flawed character! Readers need to get on board with accepting these sorts of personalities…especially in YA works. They're fascinating! The setting is vivid and serves as another character in the already strong cast. While one plot line in particular seemed rather coincidental, if not convenient, the story tightens up without a loose end to fray.

An excellent read. I recommend picking it up when you don't have a lot to do, as you won't want to put it down.

Okay.

The book was interesting, but similar to other YA books I have read. I thought the book was interesting right from the beginning, but The pacing of the book throughout was slow.
