Features & Highlights

  • <I><B>"At lunchtime we would congregate in the canteen, which was always a fun moment. There was no separation of roles. An electrician would be queuing for his lunch next to a witch and a goblin, then a cameraman, a carpenter and Hagrid".<BR/>  </B></I><BR/> Tom Felton's adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like <I>The Borrowers</I> catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the <I>Harry Potter</I> movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. <BR/>  <BR/> Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience growing up as part of the wizarding world while also trying to navigate the muggle world. He tells stories from his early days in the business like his first acting gig where he was mistaken for fellow blonde child actor Macaulay Culkin and his <I>Harry Potter</I> audition where, in a very Draco-like move, he fudged how well he knew the books the series was based on (not at all). He reflects on his experiences working with cinematic greats such as Alan Rickman, Sir Michael Gambon, Dame Maggie Smith, and Ralph Fiennes (including that awkward Voldemort hug). And, perhaps most poignantly, he discusses the lasting relationships he made over that decade of filming, including with Emma Watson, who started out as a pesky nine-year-old whom he mocked for not knowing what a boom mic was but who soon grew into one of his dearest friends. Then, of course, there are the highs and lows of fame and navigating life after such a momentous and life-changing experience.<BR/>  <BR/> Tom Felton's BEYOND THE WAND is an entertaining, funny, and poignant must-read for any <I>Harry Potter </I>fan. Prepare to meet a real-life wizard.

Don't get the fuss at all...

I think there are a lot of HP fans who love a little insider information like this book provides Gems such as Alan Richman once yelled at me or Emma Watson had a crush on me but this book is a lot of someone who seems to take much more from the world much more than he gives.
Here is a quick synopsis chapter by chapter:

*My brother liked killing fish and so do I.
*My brother stole items from the Harry Potter set HA HA!
*My cast mate was fired for getting into trouble. I got in trouble for both shoplifting and illegal drug use but never got fired...but I was worried HA HA!
*I call smoking "getting some fresh air" because it is really polluting the air HA HA!
*My life was literally saved by poor strangers but I never mention how I returned the favor to them...pay it forward and all that!
*I had to go to rehab for alcohol use. A clean living vegan surfer taught me to clean up my act but....
*I now live back in London eating pig meat and cow cheese sandwiches and smoke lots of cigarettes cause I'm just a normal bloke. Can you relate?

Seriously, focus on how many times he talks about "getting a breath of fresh air" throughout the book and you will be so happy he is showing your kids just how hip and cool tobacco addiction really is.

Yep, 5 starts for some Harry Potter Trivia I guess. 1 star for the rest.

Tom vrs Draco

As someone who has always been a fan of Tom Felton from his Harry Potter days this book is a must for any Harry Potter or Tom Felton fan I prefer to buy the audio version because the book is narrated by Tom Felton, and maybe it’s just me, but when the artists narrate their own work, you get a real sense of who the person it’s not just the character that they play on screen without naming names, I’ve listened to certain artists audiobooks, and without a doubt you can tell they’re not very nice people but whether you Choose the book or the audiobook this is a must for any Tom Felton fans

Audio is excellent

The written text is good, but the audio is so great - hearing Tom telling his own story! And, is a real life story, not just the gloss over, with ups & downs.
