“Whether or not you read poetry regularly, Break Your Glass Slippers by Amanda Lovelace should be on your must-read list.” (Popsugar)“ Break Your Glass Slippers by Amanda Lovelace is a book of poems that inspires you to ignore what others think about you (or what you *think* they think about you) and overcome those who don't see your worth, and making sure *you* see it clearly.” (Brit + Co)"Those who are fans and followers of Lovelace will not be disappointed, as she serves up her unique mix of fairytale references and female empowerment, all distilled down into scant, but impactful words . . . The structure of this collection is smart and truly unique. While many other contemporary poets write on similar topics, Lovelace has found a way to make herself standout." (YA Books Central)“Ultimately, Break Your Glass Slippers is a thought-provoking collection of poems that cohesively tell a story asking us to see our own value and beauty beneath whatever dirt others may have put there.” (The Nerd Daily)“A catalog of inspirational and emotional poems that aim to help readers find their own journey to self-love, tell their own story, and forget about the people who never saw their worth.” (Parade)“I adore this new take on the Cinderella story. In empowering and inspiring poems, Lovelace turns the fairy tale on its head, in all the best feminist ways.” (Ms. Magazine) amanda lovelace (she/they) is the author of several bestselling poetry titles, including her celebrated "women are some kind of magic" series as well as her “you are your own fairy tale” trilogy. they are also the co-creator of the believe in your own magic oracle deck. when she isn't reading, writing, or drinking a much-needed cup of coffee, you can find her casting spells from her home in a (very) small town on the jersey shore, where she resides with her poet-spouse & their three cats.

You are enough

I read break your glass slippers by Amanda Lovelace in one sitting because I couldn’t stop reading it. As usual, her fairytale-themed poetry books combine the emotions of poetry with the magic of fairytales wrapped up in a message of female empowerment. The dedication page sums it up: “for those who break glass slippers as well as glass ceilings.” This book also has colored illustrations on some pages, small drawings that look hand-colored with touches of sky blue. The sections are divided by a beautifully rendered image of a cloudy and star-filled blue and pink sky with a crescent moon. The ethereal effect is well-suited to the book. The poetry changes from a dialog between an unsure young woman and her feminist fairy godmother who, through her responses, encourages the young woman to see herself as strong and independent, to poems that reimagine and reform the themes of the Cinderella story into poetic mantras that echo the woman as strong and independent theme of the first section. The effect is a book of poetry woven into a reminder to women that we are enough. Amanda Lovelace’s fairytale poetry revisions should be on every woman’s bookshelf, whether she be maiden, mother, or crone.

Good if you're a teen girl who has struggled with weight or heartbreak issues.

Ehh.. honestly, this book read more like an adolescent book for a teenage girl struggling with weight/heartbreak issues. I bought this book, & two others by the same author on a whim. They are all reading very similar & I'm just not a fan. I've finished them within about a hour for each book. Didn't feel a spark of anything after completing the books. I could not relate to much of anything that was written, outside of some of the last pages. Maybe it's my fault for not reading in depth about the book itself? I just thought it would be different than what it was or more positive. Not a fan of her work, though I'm sure other people feel differently.

The cover is made out of a cheaper paper compared to her other books, so be careful

I wish the cover was made out of better quality paper like her other books. Just don’t spill water or any food/liquid on it. The book is a good read.
Although not my favorite of hers. But if you’re a fan of her writings I would recommend reading this! Each person is unique. I relate more to her writings in “To have Coffee with a Ghost.”
Maybe you’ll relate more to her poems in this book! So give it a shot!

Cinderella was always one of my favorite princesses

I love Amanda Lovelace poetry, this is up there with the princess saves herself in this one for favorite. It’s kind of a Cinderella inspired telling of a girl who learns her self worth and how to love herself no matter what or who decides to stay. It’s up lifting, it’s a very quick read as is all her poetry books, and it’s for gorgeous illustrations. I really recommend it!

Empowering poetry

𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒔 𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔 is a poetry retelling of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. Except this Cinderella learns to find herself and realize she doesn’t need to rely on a prince to make her own happily ever after.
This was my first time reading a collection of poetry and work from this author. I really connected with the poems in the first half and a few in the second half. After awhile, some felt repetitive or not really poems but more like mantras.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that struggles with these issues or just wants to read some empowering poetry.

Great poetry book!

I’m new to poetry but I absolutely devoured this book and marked at least 50 pages. I adored the concept and loved the “advice” from the fairy god mother. I can’t wait to read more by this author!
4.5 stars!

Lovely

Thank you to NetGalley + Andrews McMeel audio for the eALC in exchange for my honest review!

break your glass slippers was absolutely lovely and I wish it was around for me to read when I was a teenager. As a 30-year-old, it still held valuable + value-affirming words that I will cherish for a long time. Highly recommend for women (and tbh, everyone) of all ages.

Empowering

I am sucker for all of Amanda Lovelace's poetry and I thoroughly enjoyed her take on Cinderella. Empowering and lyrical her short poems about taking the reins and finding your inner fairy godmother, will resonate with lots of readers. I thought the illustrations were also beautiful and added to the collection. I look forward to reading the others in this series - fairy tales can be empowering if we learn to look at them through another lens!

Reminders of a woman's worth

Trigger warnings: child abuse, toxic friendships, toxic relationships, sexual harassment, eating disorders, suicide, and trauma

Amanda Lovelace does a fabulous job narrating her own audiobook for break your glass slippers, the first of the “you are your own fairy tale” trilogy. As I listened to Lovelace’s poems, I kept thinking of the amazing women in my life I wanted to hear the same messages Lovelace was telling to the woman in her poems. I recommend this book to all women, especially those who need to be reminded of their worth.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.
