Bungo Stray Dogs, Vol. 1 (light novel): Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam (Bungo Stray Dogs (light novel), 1)

My daughter loves these books. She is slowly collecting them all. Check BAM. Sometimes they have them cheaper.

The novel itself is a 5, but i have to say that the condition of the book was a shame, they didn't treat the book with love and it came damaged in the cover page

The cover came with a huge crease in the front which is not a happy sight to a collector like me, but thankfully the inside was in good condition. Besides the damage though, I love it!! I haven’t finished reading yet, but I’m really enjoying it so far! Being able to read about Kunikida and Dazai from between the Dark Era and the main series is super cool!! Dazai is my absolute favorite character so I’m always happy to see more of him 🥰 Kunikida also needs more love!! I’m really happy to see him as the main character! Love being able to hear all his inner thoughts :,)

Something that surprised me though is that, if you’re reading this after watching the anime like me, this novel is actually what those two Azure Messenger episodes were based on! I find it so interesting that they took this prequel sort of story and integrated it into the main story and adding Atsushi. Glad it got animated though! They were really great episodes so I’m glad to revisit them again in this novel, but this time as Dazai’s entrance exam ^_^!

Ah yes, I should also mention that just like the manga, abilities are translated as skills which is still really weird to me, but I can still read and enjoy it nonetheless. Dialogue is also way less awkward than the manga which sounds too formal and sometimes forced. Overall the translation isn’t SO bad, it just sucks the localization doesn’t match with the official English sub/dub of the anime 😕

Overall, if you’re a huge fan of BSD like me I highly recommend picking this up!! It’s a really fun ride!

okay first of all id like to say that this novel highlighted EVERYTHING about how kunikida and dazai made the perfect duo; i love them SO much bro i swear

Would recommend for the bungo stray dogs light novel readers

As a fan of Bungo Stray Dogs, I really enjoyed the light novel. My only gripe with it is that it kind of read like a fanfic, but it was still well written. The translations fine and it shouldn’t deter you from reading it

Great read

Even though this is supposively a story about Dazai's entrance test into the Armed Detective Agency, it is actually the story of the Azure Messenger sans Atsushi Nakajima. Still a good read though.
