Description

“Ilona Andrews’ books are guaranteed good reads.” — Patricia Briggs, #1 New York Times bestselling author “With heart-pounding romance and non-stop action, this is Ilona Andrews at her best!” — Jeaniene Frost, New York Times bestselling author “Addictive, imaginative, and incredibly sexy.” — Eloisa James, New York Times bestselling author “Andrews serves up a refreshing new magical society, excellent world-building, beguiling characters, and strong storytelling...Romantic sparks and a tangled mystery make this a lively, impressive series debut.” — Publishers Weekly on Burn for Me “The stakes are high throughout, the action is tight, and the romance steamy. Andrews fully paints this modern-day world of magic with rewarding detail, and reveals the ‘true’ versions of such historical events as the Great Chicago Fire, which was not caused by Mrs. O’Leary’s cow, but rather by an experimenting pyrokinetic. Readers will burn for the next installment.” — Booklist (starred review) on Burn for Me Intriguing, multilayered characters and a fresh, imaginative alternate reality based in Houston help round out the heart-stopping, kick-butt action. Seeing Andrews’ name on a book is an iron-clad guarantee of an outstanding reading adventure! — Romantic Times BOOKclub, Top Pick, 4 1/2 stars, BURN FOR ME #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . . Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire. Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive. Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world. “Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian, and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored four New York Times and USA Today bestselling series: the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats. Read more

Not my usual fare...but immensly readable...

...I'm not normally a reader of genre fiction, and confronted the unopened pages of "Burn For Me" with the same level of anticipation I gave to a large serving of spinach as a 6-year old.

The result now, like then, was rather surprising. Eventually I came to appreciate that fresh spinach, cooked (or not) and properly seasoned has charms all its own. This book came was pleasantly refreshing to somebody utterly unschooled in the ways of genre fiction.

In a semi-dystopic current world, some people are skilled users of various forms of magical powers; those who have harnessed the most skill in use of these powers enjoy influence and privilege that others do not.

Private Investigator Nevada Baylor (her power: she can tell when somebody is lying; great skill for a PI, dontcha think?) and her principal antagonist (and, since this is the lead in a series, future love interest?) Mad Rogan are both in pursuit of the same "Prime" power wielder gone bad, Adam Pierce (whose magic is fire).

I'd like to say hilarity ensues, but there is much more than that in their present (and future) relationship.

This contains graphic novel type violence, and enough discussions of non-magical weapons and technology that most men should be able to read this without cringing (just hide the cover from your most macho friends). On the fringe are enough badasses to fill half a dozen Quentin Tarantino films.

Both the main and supporting characters are interesting enough that you do become invested in their fate. The dialog is crisp and effectively propels the story forward.

For those who aren't normally readers of genre fiction or already familiar with the husband-wife duo that created this story: keep an open mind and keep this nearby for your next downtime reading adventure. It's worth the quick reading time to explore.

Read this book

I have never read a bad book by the Ilona Andrews team, but this is probably the best series that they write. They are so talented at world building, the structure of the world that they created for this series is precise, logical and fascinating. So often bad boy heros are just jerks but Connor ("Mad") Rogan is complicated and kept my interest. The heroine, Nevada, is not a shrieking maiden in distress nor a superhero, she is not ordinary but her choices are equally complicated and challenging as are Mad Rogan's. All I can tell you is read this book. If you like Ilona Andrews, you will not be disappointed. If you like fantasy/romance with guns and magic, you will not be disappointed. The only criticism I can offer is that there are only three books in the series and it does not look like Ms/Mr. Andrews intends to write more.

Why did I wait so FREAKING LONG!!!

OMG! Why did I wait so FREAKING LONG to read this book? I’m freaking speechless. I have been so busy with YA that I haven’t looked at the Urban fantasy genre in such a long time, that I have forgotten about certain books. Yea, I know! I can’t even believe it myself. But the good news is that it refresh my memory and now, all I want to do is read them all lol.
This may be a good or a bad thing lol.
Anyway, guys!!!
If you like adult Urban fantasy, GET THIS!!! I loved it so damn much. Burn for me is about a PI woman, Nevada Baylor and the powerful, impossible, incredibly hot, Mad Rogan (swoon)
This story is full of kickass magic, a story based on the modern world with regular people and people that can invoke magic. Burn for Me has an unimaginable plot, with a sub-plot of romance with an incredible world build. I promise this book was OUT of this world. The foundation to this whole story was freaking excellent. I embraced everything about it. The mystery, the plot twists, along with the genuine interest in all the characters and their stories.
Burn for Me, will no doubt keep you hooked at every page and every discovery. I assure you that this book will be spectacular. Give it a try.

LilyElement Book Reviews - Burn For Me

Burn for Me is book one in the Hidden Legacy series. It's world is rich and starts many years ago when there was an experimental serum that the government gave to soldiers. The serum gave the soldiers magical abilities. As time went forward some of the powers diluted and the families that had strong abilities wanted to remain at the top. They started to pick and choose who their children would marry and have children with. All in the name of power...

Nevada Baylor, the sole investigator at her family run detective agency is asked by her parent company to detain Adam Pierce and bring him back to his family safely. This isn’t your run of the mill person though, Adam is a Prime. What’s a Prime? Only the top tier strength magic users out there. He has an affinity for fire, and a video shows that he blasted a bank with his fire and showed no mercy. I was hoping for Nevada’s sake that she had some sort of power that would aid her when she sought Adam out, but we find out she’s pretty much a walking lie detector. Though rare, the ability won’t help Nevada when the Prime is determined on setting her on fire. The mission is a suicide mission, or so I thought. We find out Adam had an accomplice, and Nevada isn’t the only person in town looking for someone.

Connor "Mad" Rogan, a Prime that turned recluse is trying to find one of his family members but his search instead leads him to Nevada. His teenage family member had teamed up with the guy Nevada is searching for so Nevada and Mad Rogan form a hesitant alliance. Neither fully trusts the other and it was interesting to see how they would interact with one another. It started off rocky to say the least, and I really wasn’t sure they would be able to maintain the team. But slowly you see Nevada chip away at Mad Rogan’s icy exterior and get under his skin. The duo are forced to play Adam's cat and mouse game in attempts to protect everyone.

I had to grab this one since I’ve been binge reading their Kate Daniel’s series. Burn for Me is action packed and left me needing to know what happens next. Book two can seriously not come soon enough. If you’re looking to start a new Urban Fantasy series that has an edge of romance with a ton of action, I highly recommend you pick this.

It was okay

REVIEW:
I had a hard time rating this book. I don’t know what it was but the first few chapter’s interested me. A new world to explore and a new twist on magic. Connor peaked my interests. All moody and mysterious. Nevada came acrossed as tough and determine. But then I read on and found myself bored. I am not sure if it was my mood or not. Or maybe I just have a hard time with the Urban Fantasy genre (I like my HEA at the end of the book). Or maybe it was the first encounter between Mad & Nevada. I don’t know. But I didn’t connect with this book. Maybe at a later date I will pick this book up and re-read. But at this time I am not sure I will continue with this series.

I love this book!

This story is just so good! Please ignore the cover. It doesn’t reflect this book at all it deserves better. Regardless, the storyline is amazing. Nevada is a strong heroine with very realistic reactions to the crazy scenarios she finds herself in. She is capable and strong without being annoying lol Mad Rogan is everything. This man is so morally gray…I love him lol. He’s unrepentant but flexible when Nevada asks him for restraint. I listened to the book via audible and loved it so much I bought a physical copy. I’ve already started the second book in the series and I’m beyond hype. Read this book! Five stars!

Enjoyed The First Three Books To Hidden Legacy!

The first three books revolve around Nevada Baylor and Connor Rogan. I enjoyed them and recommend them. The next three are going to revolve around Catalina and Alessandro. Catalina is Nevada's sister. I won't be reading those, because I don't find the character Catalina very interesting and also I would have preferred the story to continue being told through Nevada's eyes. I wish the authors had stuck with that and find it annoying they didn't.

Fun to read, interesting and good writing

Great start to a new series by a writing team I like. HOWEVER, since I have read ALL of the Kate Daniels series ("Magic..."), to date, I see far too many similarities in this series, its characters, its premises and its plots to give it 5 stars. Fun to read, interesting and good writing.

The sex scenes are always too perfect, but it is a romance/fantasy novel, so what should we expect?

and I was not disappointed. I will admit that Ilona Andrews are my ...

So, I originally read this one when it first came out. I decided a re-read was in order since the next one has just come out, and I was not disappointed. I will admit that Ilona Andrews are my favorite and I'm wondering if I'll ever find any of their works that I don't like.
Back to this story in particular. The world building was awesome. Who wouldn't want to know more about a world influenced by magic? Nevada is amazing as a MC. She's smart, funny and is willing to do what it takes to survive. I especially like that she doesn't just run around reckless and expect things to work out for her as some MC's tend to do or worse, expect a heroic man to run in and save her at every opportunity. Her interactions with her family add to her, and I'll admit I want Grandma Frida around a whole lot more. The book was set with a great pace, I just didn't want to put it down.

Any fans of paranormal romance will enjoy this novel.

I really try not to be one of those people who judges a book by the cover, but I don't think there can be any argument that the cover of Burn For Me is about the most romance cover to ever be a romance cover.

I don't care. Buy the book anyway.

Ilona Andrews overturns a lot of the urban fantasy tropes in their other books, and they do the same with paranormal romance in this new series. The romance side includes both the almost-love-triangle and the antagonists-to-lovers tropes, but both are handled without stereotype with lots of intriguing twists. On the paranormal side, this story takes place in an interesting alternate universe that presents magic and extraordinary abilities in a new way.

The setting and world-building stick out in my head a lot more than the main characters, but the secondary characters of the heroine's family were delightful. I'm not sure whether future books in this series will continue the stories of Nevada and Rogan or switch to another love story, but I hope to see more of Nevada's family either way.

Fans of the Kate Daniels series should check out this novel if they don't mind a heavier dose of romance. Any fans of paranormal romance will enjoy this novel.
