Passed the CAPM on my first try!

I ordered this book online all the way from Lebanon. I studied for my certification over a duration of 3 weeks, allocating about 3 hours a day. All I used was this awesome guide that I would recommend anyone to buy. (did not even get the PMBOK)
My studying technique:
- Read each and every single word of this book while jotting down your own summary notes as they will be your number 1 source for reviewing (don't miss the end-of-chapter summaries as some have more info not included in the chapters themselves)
- Take the mock-exam provided for as many times as you till you score >90 to a 100. Also end-of-chapter quizzes are essential.
- Take all kinds of mock exams you can find online. Some are very useful (Brainbok for example) and write down notes for questions you've missed.
- Read the ITTO summary sheet provided in the CD everyday. I did not particularly memorise it, I just understood what each process is and all the terms in the ITTO, so I got a logic out of it.
- Just be motivated to pass the exam as the feeling upon directly receiving the result is tremendous!!!!

Thank you Joseph Phillips!

Great Book!

I recently used this book to pass my CAPM exam. It was the only book/tool I used. The book comes with a CD which includes great resources. I wish I would have explored the disk earlier in my studying. As a side note, I wish I would have studied the processes and their inputs and outputs more. Even though I passed, I would have felt more comfortable during my exam.

Great study guide....

We reviewed this book as part of a class assignment in Project Management. What we found is that for the money this book is a great resource to help people prepare for and pass either the CAPM or PMP exams offered by the Project Management Institute. This book directly mirrors in content the standard reference book for Project Management; the Project Management Body of Knowledge, PMBOK.

What has set this book apart though in preparation for the CAPM or PMP exams are the additional resources given. The CAPM / PMP All in One Study Guide gives you end of chapter reviews, practice test questions, definitions to key terms, helpful exam tips, an entire chapter left out of the PMBOK related to ethics, and a CD which contains great videos, and practice exams. There is even an added appendix in the back that gives you key things you MUST know in order to pass the exams.

Overwhelmingly, while this book does not replace the PMBOK in the field of project management, anyone who is going to attempt to take either the CAMP or the PMP exam should definitely get a copy of this book and use it to study by.

Good like and kind regards,

A great textbook for studying for the CAPM/PMP

I like this book and how it reads. Its like a textbook for the tests; it has enough information to explain the material to you so that you're not just trying to memorize a bunch of information, but actually understand it. In addition to the book breaking down the PMBOK material, there are exam tips, exercises, lists of keywords and practice questions. The appendix's have a great breakdown of the material. The CDROM has practice questions and study sheets, as well as a digital copy of the book which is great because I can load it on my tablet to take with me!

The only thing I would like to see is a separate book for the CAPM. For someone that's just studying for the CAPM and new to project management in general, it may be a bit overwhelming and it covers a bit more material than necessary for the CAPM.

Overall great book and would definitely recommend it!

CAPM - Misleading Direction

To be perfectly honest, while the concepts and test questions in the book are easy to digest, the actual CAPM exam is not structured or written in the same light. I was blown away with how different the test questions were and was immediately disappointed and angered that I wasted my money on this study guide (and test). Perhaps that emotion played into my failing grade.

For those taking the CAPM exam before it changes next month, focus on studying concretely ALL of the processes in the Knowledge Areas and when they are used in the project. Do not think the questions will give you paragraph long back-stories as modeled in the book to help you make the best multiple choice determination. They do not. Most of the questions are right to the point. For someone who is geared to learning by storytelling and "big-picture" concepts (like me) this exam was extremely difficult.

However, the experience does not deter me from retaking the exam as soon as possible.

Passed the CAPM on my first try with this!

This book made all the difference in passing my exam! I did NOT use the PMBOK, only this book and I can't recommend it enough. The PMBOK is super dry and hard to read, but this author adds personality that keeps you engaged. The supplemental CD with the practice tests helped a lot (need access to a Windows PC, doesn't work on Mac). You learn the "why behind the what" and it really helps you to understand the questions in the exam (passed on the first try). Read and re-read until you understand. Watch all the videos, take and retake the practice tests. A bit of memorization is required, but mostly, if you understand the why and the what on the processes, you'll be okay.

The only book you will need

This book and associated study materials were exactly what was needed to pass the PMP exam. I bought several books and study aids, but this was the only one I used. Easy to read, practice tests and complimentary videos. This book saved me thousands in boot camp and retest fees.

Organized and Amazing Sarcasm

This book is incredibly helpful for the PMP exam. It is organized, has challenging questions, and excellent software to take practice exams or sample questions. Don't forget to check out the CD because it has a digital version of the book. I was an idiot and carried the book around for a week. There are also cheat sheets and excellent resources to help you understand PMP math.

Finally, the sarcasm in the book is its secret sauce. My favorites are:
- "And by execution, I mean the project team executing the project plan, not you executing the team - although that can be tempting at times."
- The NPV formula, step #5: "Take two aspirins."

The material is really tedious so this really helps keep you on track!

Only bought this one and passed CAPM

A very interesting and helpful book, I bought this one and passed my CAPM in April 2016. For CAPM exam, the practice exam questions and chapter review questions are not exactly the same as the ones in the real exam. Questions in the book are more like scenario-based and a little bit tricky, which is I like, but exam questions are just straightforward. I didn't buy PMBOK , I know I should (if you are a PMI member, you can have PMBOK ebook downloaded online), even the author suggests to buy PMBOK as a reference, but only have this one is good to go. Doing the practice exam questions over and over again, as the author suggested repetition is crucial.

good explanations. The questions are sometimes a bit off

The chapter information is OK, good explanations. The questions are sometimes a bit off, and the explanations are VERY basic--as in: (A) is the correct answer because ... . (B),(C), and (D) are incorrect. Very rarely does the author actually explain why the incorrect answers are NOT right. I have found in studying other books for other certifications that that sort of explanation is almost MORE helpful than the explanation for why the right answer is correct. Additionally, the included electronic content is an .exe file and therefore does not work unless you have a windows OS.
