Delightful Read.

Jenny Colgan has the ability to intertwine characters in her books. Every book of hers that I have read had characters from previous books and it was a delight to see them again. This book is probably the 12th Jenny Colgan that I have read with more on order. They are also an insight into life in small Scottish villages as well as life in modern London. Highly recommended. You won't be able to put them down,.

Terrific!

I am so very in love with Rosie Hopkins and her entire little town, friends, family, and now Mr. Dog. This book was an absolutely perfect follow-up to the first Sweetshop of Dreams book. I couldn't put it down.
This is one of those books that makes you feel like you are a part of this town or makes you really, really wish you were. There is a return appearance from just about everyone from the previous book, almost, and a few new faces pop in. Things are moving along rather well, with a few blips here and there, but then a great tragedy strikes that throws everyone and everything into utter chaos. Things look quite grim. Hopefully Rosie and the gang are able to overcome what was thrown into their lives. Christmas is coming and the town needs a bit of cheer!
This book is absolutely terrific. I read this a time after Christmas so it can easily be read any time of year (though I most definitely think any book can be read any time of year!) and it's still just as great. If you liked the first one, you'll love this one too. I guess you don't need to read the first book first, but I highly, highly recommend you do. You'll love this one so much more if you do.

Utterly Charming, Well-Written, Engaging Holiday Read

Utterly charming, a perfect read around holiday time. This book is well-written, has engaging characters and a good story line with a few twists. It's a lovely escape without being sugar-coated, implausible, or formula.
The bonus for me, despite having lived and worked with Brits for years, was learning lots of new to me British phrases, terms and foods.

Another Jenny Colgan winner

what Christmas could be complete without a new Jenny Colgan book to read, and this time it's one of my favorites... it’s the Rosie Hopkin's Sweetshop series. Now for my American readers, a Sweetshop is a candy shop, the sweets (candy) comes in big jars and it gets measures out and you get it in a paper bag and for a child (or a 39-year-old woman with a candy addiction) it's truly a magical place.

But on with the story, Rosie and Stephan are enjoying life in Lipton, completely happy, and then Rosie's family decides to grace her with their presence for Christmas, upsetting anything and everything in their wake and with a hidden game plan to take over everything in Rosie's life. And like most doormat daughters (me being one of them) you slip into the same role you play whenever those who try to dominate you come back into your life.

But Stephan struggled to cope with the change in Rosie, the demands of her family and struggles with PTSD, and when it all comes to a head, will Rosie and Stephans's happy life continue? Or will Rosie's family succeed?

Christmas at Rosie Hopkin's Sweetshop is yet another amazing book by the author, it really relates to me in so many ways, I really enjoyed the direction that the author took the characters in, breaking free of the role that you always play within your family, especially trying to become more assertive when you have always been the family doormat is really hard, and I really appreciate the way Ms. Colgan has written it because most of the time you don't realize you have changed your behavior. But with all that being said I'm really hoping for a third book in the series...or maybe more.
