Bought this from Michael's. I have to admit it ...

Bought this from Michael's. I have to admit it sat for a really long time. Just recently started coloring it with Copic markers. I'm really enjoying myself a lot more than I thought I would. The pictures are imaginative and I'm using unusual color schemes from my norm. The line work is very detailed so it gives the opportunity to add a lot of shading with different colors. The individual pictures ends up as a final large panoramic but you can also cut the pieces to make smaller scenes. The individual pages also will match the line work if you decide to skip a page. Overall very enjoyable for youngsters or adults.

More than I expected.

These are very detailed pictures. The "book" is actually a long panoramic picture, but it can be used as separate pages also. On the back side of the panels is another, bigger dragon, on a grid. There is another few panels is empty grid you can use to draw your own dragon. So yes, it is printed on both sides. Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to the description when I ordered this...I was more like" ooooh dragons!" I love John Howe's work, so this is great.

I LOVE the pictures

I LOVE the pictures!!! I grew up with the old animated hobbit movie and the animation style is amazing! This feels like it jumped right out of that movie. I love dragons and this has several different kinds in different styles and scenes. It can even be hung up as art when I'm finshed coloring it! It can all be one long piece or in different panels as individual pieces. Each piece connectsto the others, yet also stands alone beautifully! It has many intricate designs and things to keep me entertained coloring for quite a while. Highly recommended for dragon loving adults and young adults!

Not what I expected

A bit small to color, good panoramic for framing once colored. Images on 2 sides, have to choose or frame 2-sided.

Maybe I suck at reading descriptions

NOT what I expected. I expected multiple pages, and not one long panorama. Maybe I suck at reading descriptions! Anyways, the art work is goregous and I'm excited to color this.

I'm in love with this.

I decided to give adult coloring books and artists colored pencils for everyone on my list his year. I spent hours looking at coloring books in several stores and wasn't really happy with anything I saw. Then, while standing in the check out line at Michaels I spied this book on their magazine rack. Absolutely PERFECT. The problem was they only had one and I needed at least four. This led to several more hours calling every possible source in a 2 state area. Every one was sold out and had more on back order...As usual, Amazon had them. Eventually, I did get the 4 I needed. I tell you this to illustrate just how wonderful this book is. The format of the fold out pages reveals a continuous scene of mystical wonder, however you can easily separate the pages and each one is a complete picture in its'' own right. The art work and illustration is indescribably beautiful. You can see from the cover picture just how minutely detailed the pictures are. For this reason the book really is for adults. One of the ones I bought is for myself. I can't wait to start it.....a great escape into the land of make believe awaits me.

Challenging, but worth it

I bought this knowing it was a panoramic scene and I love it! I am coloring a couple of panels as a gift for someone that loves dragon art. The way the drawings are done allows you to be as creative as you want and are perfect for colored pencils. It is a bit of a challenge to color and takes time, but the results are amazing!

A dragon lover's delight

I have loved John Howe's art for years before the Peter Jackson movies. So much so I have one of his dragons from a book he did as a tattoo. I am going out of my comfort zone with this and basing in watercolors before hitting the pencils to it. This is worth it for the chance to color his fabulous drawing

VERY disappointing and misleading product description.

This is in no way a 'coloring book' and because there is NO way to see what the inside looks like, or that it is a very long pull out, the description is completely misleading. Now that I have the product, and read the description, and the lack of photos of anything but the front cover, it is a gross misrepresentation, and I am 100% disappointed.

I'd give it six stars if I could.

The artwork is totally stunning. So detailed and remarkable I stared at it for days before I put a pencil to it. I still haven't colored on it much because I want to take my time to do it justice. If you are a fan of dragons this is the perfect book. If you love LOTR then you must have this one.

Now for the particulars. I've seen A LOT of complaining in the reviews. Some of them are clearly people that don't understand greyscale coloring. Greyscale isn't like your old fashion black lines where you fill in the spaces. You have two different variety . One is the photographic. A photographer will take black and white which the lighten making it possible to color. The other is the drawing. Usually done in sketch style like this book. There are variation of light to dark. The idea being you use your darkest color on the darkest shading then vary your shade to match until you get to the lightest shade. This creates a highly realistic look that resembles a drawing or photo. They are beautiful finished products.

The other complaint I have seen is the style of this book. It is a Panoramic. Not a page book. The title and the description both say so. That being said I like the small size and the panorama. It gives you a unique version of the artists view. The size is nice if you are like me and you have accumulated a collection of such things it doesn't take up a great deal of room. There are perforations where it can be taken out of the cover, however I can see that being an issue. It would leave it unprotected. All in I think this one is amazing. Totally frame able when finished.
