Features & Highlights

  • Comet’s Tale is a story about a friendship between two former winners, both a little down on their luck, who together stage a remarkable comeback. A former hard-driving attorney, Steven Wolf has reluctantly left his job and family and moved to Arizona for its warm winter climate. There he is drawn to a local group that rescues abused racing greyhounds. Although he can barely take care of himself because of a spinal condition, Wolf adopts Comet, an elegant cinnamon-striped racer. Or does Comet adopt Wolf? In Comet’s Tale we follow their funny and moving journey as Wolf teaches Comet to be a service dog. With her boundless enthusiasm and regal manners, Comet attracts new friends to Wolf’s isolated world. And finally, she plays a crucial role in restoring his health, saving his marriage, and broadening his definition of success.

A Special Story about a Special Greyhound and Her Owner

As someone who has been the owner of, and been owned by, four retired racing greyhounds I truly enjoyed this story of a man and a special greyhound who rescue each other. The author is mired in a health crisis and an overachieving personality that negatively affect his career and his family. Comet is a remarkable representative of a wonderful breed. Her story is told with compassion, understanding, humor and gratitude. Along with her story, the author gives a historical background of greyhounds and their not so fortunate association with modern day greyhound racing. There may be those who are offended by what may be an inaccurate, and overly negative description of the treatment of racing greyhounds, at least as it occurs in the United States. I have seen both positive and negative among racing owners and breeders. If the reader can get beyond their own opinions about greyhound racing, a wonderful story awaits. The journey of Steve Wolfe and Comet together is heart-warming and inspiring.

I am a greyhound mom, and this book is all about a greyhound and the rescuing of a human and a greyhound. Its happy, its sad. Being the owner of this breed makes this book even better.
I encourage anyone who is a dog lover, and especially those who are owned by a greyhound, to purchase this book.
