Features & Highlights

  • The murder of a glamorous DC socialite becomes Alex Cross’s deadliest case since
  • Along Came a Spider.
  • Kay Willingham led a life as glamorous as it was public—she was a gorgeous Georgetown socialite, philanthropist, and the ex-wife of the vice president. So why was she parked in a Bentley convertible idling behind a DC private school, in the middle of the night, with the man who was the head of that school? Who shot them both, point blank, and why? The shocking double homicide is blazed across the internet, TV, newspapers—and across Alex Cross's mind. Kay had been his patient once. And maybe more. While John Sampson of DC Metro Police investigates the last movements of Christopher Randall, the educator killed along with Kay Willingham, detective Alex Cross and FBI special agent Ned Mahoney find unanswered questions from Willingham's past, before she arrived in DC and became known in DC society as someone who could make things happen. They travel to Alabama to investigate Kay's early years. There they find a world of trouble, corruption, and secrets, all of them closed to outsiders like Cross and Mahoney.Kay had many enemies, but all of them seemed to need her alive. The harder the investigators push, the more resistance they find when they leave behind the polite law offices and doctors' quarters of the state capital. Alex Cross will need to use all his skills as a doctor, a detective, and a family man to prevent that resistance from turning lethal . . . again.

Patterson never fails. Another very good book in the Alex Cross series

( No Spoilers )
This a rollercoaster ride of a book with never letting go of the pace right until the very end. I have to say, this James Patterson’s Alex Cross novel is another incredibly well-written page-turner. My wife read it in one day, while I am a slower reader and enjoy the suspense and taking my time. This is a twisty and meticulously plotted story with multiple threads going on at the same time. I was so glad that Patterson has kept up the quality of his writing over this series. I thought this was a very well written book and I really enjoyed reading Alex Cross investigatigation of two murders where both victims are known to him.

Meh

I know these books are wildly popular so I'm in the minority. I'm usually all about "true crime" but I decided to buy this since it had great reviews. It started out promising but then just became so convoluted, with multiple storylines that didn't really have anything to do with one another. And all the time and effort spent on exploring one character and the reason for that person's death led to a disappointing conclusion on that storyline. And the ending in general was a total fizzle. I think I will stick to my true crime.

Boring!

I can usually read an Alex Cross book in 1 or 2 days. This book, to me, was very boring. It's taken me over a week to read. It's very disappointing.

Disappointing

Perhaps after reading all of the Alex Cross novels I'm getting a bit jaded, but this last one was a waste of time. It lacked the punch of the earlier novels and did not hold my interest. Unfortunately this has been the case for the last few years. The characters aren't interesting and the plot lines feel recycled.

I'm reminded of John Saul, who after writing about two dozen really gripping novels, basically said "when you have no more to say, you stop writing".

I think Alex Cross needs to be retired, although I'd like him to go out with a bang, not a whimper.

Too Much

Too many players, crimes, and it goes on and on endlessly. I usually love Patterson but not this book

Psychological Thriller

An Alex Cross novel which usually never fails to entertain &keep you on the edge of your seat with page turning twists & turns. This one, however had way too many characters this time & they didn't seem to connect like the normal & expected Patterson books go. I was confused about a 3rd of the way in to the book with all the different plot twists that actually read like 2 or 3 books written before by this author. It seemed to me like he was repeating himself in this book with other books & trying to disguise the characters with just different names. I felt like I was reading old books of his but under a different title. I was really disappointed in this one. It seems like he was just simply put, burned out. Hopefully his next book will have a new & better plot, he's a fantastic author, I look forward to 1 new, fresh & gripping! This 1 isn't it.

A great suspenseful read!

I could not put this down. Perfect combo of psychological thriller and murder mystery. Following Cross and Mahoney as they fall down the rabbit hole of Kay's back-story was engrossing. Everyone has something to hide. Lots of twists and turns, always kept me guessing what would happen next. Definitely a great read! Highly recommend.

poor writing

uninspired thin plot. Every other page is a new numbered chapter. what's up with that? threw the book away after 30 minutes.
will never read this author again.

Been buying kindle for years.

When the kindle costs more than the hardcover, I'm done. Enjoy your profit, from others.
