Another Amazing Story in the Significance Series

I have to start this review with a note to Ms. Crane. Ms. Crane, you just sent me on a whirlwind adventure, and I can't wait to see what happens next!! This series literally gets better and better. I can't even describe how amazing this book was. There was tension, tons of action, romance, and death. At first I wasn't sure how I would like this novel simply because it was going to only be taking place over the week at the Reunification and the palace. I was hoping it wouldn't be boring and just drag. Trust me...it didn't. I wanted to keep reading and reading to find out what was going to happen next. There were so many twists and turns that it made my head spin. Just when I thought I had some things figured out, everything changed, and not always for the good. Ms. Crane wrote so many shock-and-awe moments that I was literally gasping when some things happened. The writing was spectacular, and very descriptive. I appreciated the inside look at what went into being the Visionary, as well as what exactly the Reunification was.

The characters in this novel were astounding. We are introduced to a plethora of characters, who are very diverse and unique. It would have been very easy for an author to just have these characters fade into the background, but not Ms. Crane. Ms. Crane gave us descriptions galore, and the reader truly is able to get a feel for the families. I loved their introduction, and I hope to see more of them in the last book, Independence. Maggie is such an amazing character. She has grown significantly (pun intended) since the first book, and it was nice to see her step up into her role as the Visionary, even though a certain family was desperate to make her fail. Maggie is strong and independent, and while she does need Caleb, she is still her own person. This was such a refreshing type of character to read, and someone any girl can admire. I loved Caleb, Kyle, Lynne, and all of the other Jacobson's (especially Gran). Gran cracks me up, and had me laughing numerous times throughout this novel. Rodney is also back, and he is even funnier than before. As for those pesky Watson's, well I never thought I could hate a group of characters so much! They are expertly written, and they added a huge amount of tension to the story. It kept the story interesting and certainly lively.

There are some very exciting and touching moments in this novel, especially when some people imprint. However, the good does come with bad. There are several deaths, and one of them is absolutely heartbreaking. I teared up, and had to go back a reread the part of the story because I just couldn't believe the character was actually dead. This novel has definitely set in motion some events that are bound to have repercussions in the next novel, and I can't wait to see how everything plays out.

This is definitely an amazing read, and will satisfy any fan of the Significance series. Ms. Crane is an extraordinary author, and I am eager to read the final book, as well as other books that she has written. I highly recommend this novel! You won't be disappointed! Happy reading :)

Great Creativity!

I read Defiance by Shelly Crane. I recommend this book! It starts with Maggie and the Jacobson's at the 'palace' in London. Marla, one of the Watson's, had told Maggie that she would like nothing more than Maggie to die. She was playing tricks with them. Maggie as the Visionary has many responsibilities and needs to work with the council, but she must show her visions of why the imprints stopped before and what they need to do to eradicate the problem. Maggie feels like she's in over her head, but she know what she needs to do. She tours around and gets to know the clans and she wants them to get to know her not as the Visionary but as Maggie. She is immediately accused of being pregnant because she has a mark of Mutualization, but it's different. A blood test will be administered. By this time, Kyle has imprinted with a girl they rescued in California. People are amazed and happy to see that the imprints are coming back. This book is a great roller coaster ride. I did get confused on the parts where they were talking about Uncle Ken and Uncle Max. I figure the author meant the same person, Uncle Max, but I was not sure. Other than that it was a great continuation for the series and great creativity from the author as to a different world living in our world!
