Dem Bones

This is wonderful to sing while the child gets a kick out of the skeletons and learns about his body

My Pre-K students enjoyed it.

I teach a science class for ages 3 - 6, and we read this when we study skeletons. Not only does it have great illustrations, and the words of the song (a spiritual from about 100 years ago that's very fun to sing) , but it also has information about each of the bones, like it talks about how the ankle bone helps us bend, flex, and climb stairs. When we read it in class, I sing out the verse ("the foot bone's connected to the ankle bone"), then I point to that bone or joint on me and encourage them to examine their own bone or joint (like flexing and swiveling the ankle joint) as I read the additional facts about that bone. After we read all the way through, we sing the song as I flip through the book. It's a fun and memorable way to learn about skeletons. Note, the lyrics in the book end with the traditional "Hear the Word of the Lord". If that's not appropriate for your setting, you can adapt to "Doing the Skeleton Dance." Loved the fanciful illustrations for this traditional song; and especially loved finding the book and song on YouTube, making it easy to teach the melody to a beloved 3-year-old. Book condition was excellent, product arrival was very timely, much joy provided to the family!

My two year old twin girls love this book! We just read the song part together, not the extra facts at this point. A great into to some basic anatomy.

My daughter loves skeletons due to loving Dia De Los Muertos ever since she was months old. She is also leaning body parts in English, and high she doesn't feel comfortable with. Being that I use loved reading tus book years ago as I would read it to ore k children who loved it as well I decided to buy for my 2 yr old . She loves it so much she has me read it 3-5 times In a row. We I Ku read the song lyrics which we read. I first read it In Spanish (translated by me) and then read or sing in English. A child can grow with this book as there are side readings with more details and even a bone chart at the end of the book. I could see a child still reading it up till 5th or 6th grade (about 12 years old).

My grandsons love this book. Fun to read and sing.
