Description

"This book is everything. It's a romp, a fable, a myth, an inspiration, a teachable moment, a true hero's journey, a cautionary tale, and a fairy tale for an entirely new (or rather, ANCIENT) species of fairies. It's rare that so much wisdom can be found wrapped up in such comedy, such kindness, such lightness of touch. It's a perfect book. I want every woman I know to read it. This is storytelling at its very best, and also at its most important." -- ELIZABETH GILBERT, bestselling author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic "What I love about this book is that you think you're reading a grand adventure story, but by the end of the book you realize you've been abducted by the genius Martha Beck who has given you a soul transfusion -you're more awake, more inspired, deepened, broadened, uplifted. I was amazed that a book can be so funny and so enlightening at the same time. Now I have to read it again, because I know that hiding within the book's oddest twists and turns, there is even more spiritual gold to be mined. Martha Beck has written The Wizard of Oz for our times, but this time, the story comes with instructions on how each one of us can find our way home." --ELIZABETH LESSER, Cofounder of Omega Institute, author of the New York Times bestseller, Broken Open and Marrow: A Love Story "Once in a triple blue moon, a book comes along that combines riveting narrative, delightful characters, and timeless spiritual wisdom: In Diana, Herself, Martha Beck has written such a story. Beck takes readers on an unforgettable, magical journey filled with deep truths that resonate, above all, in the heart. Who knew enlightenment could be so much fun?" -- SUSAN CASEY, author of The Wave, The Devil's Teeth, and Voices in the Ocean Even though this book is fiction and not self-help or memoir, Martha does not hold back her clear instructions for living with greater peace. I devoured Diana, Herself in the span of a few days; I daresay it is the most powerful book I've ever read for furthering my own personal and spiritual growth. -- CHRISTINE CARTER, Ph.D., Author of The Sweet Spot: How to find your groove at home and work

Features & Highlights

  • Maybe, once or twice in your life, you’ve experienced a surge of destiny so strong it made you believe in miracles.
  • Such bolts from the blue seem to hit when weariness or ill fortune have plowed through the ground of reason, breaking it up so magic can take root. What follows is so perfect that to call it accidental defies belief. Diana Archer is an absolutely—mathematically!—average woman, living an unremarkable life, when destiny reaches her. Without quite knowing how or why, she finds herself leaving everything familiar and moving into a world where miracles are commonplace, where her supposed flaws become her salvation, and where each person’s story is everyone’s.
  • In this exuberant allegory, bestselling memoir and self-help author Martha Beck takes readers into the wild parts of the world and the human psyche. The story of
  • Diana, Herself
  • helps every reader chart a course for awakening to greater joy, adventure, and purpose.
  • It feels almost magical to Diana Archer—out-of-work store clerk, former foster child, and bearer of multiple psychological diagnoses—when she’s pulled into the orbit of world-famous life coach and reality TV star Roy Richards. Together, Diana and Roy embark on the latest in his series of “conquests,” surviving a month in California’s trackless Sierras Oscuras National Forest.
  • It’s in the forest that their quest devolves into disaster—and the real magic begins. Lost, alone, and dying, Diana is taken under the trotter of a benevolent spirit animal (or is it a projection of her perennially troubled mind?) who promises to take her home. But ”home“ proves to be a place much more mysterious than Los Angeles. Awakening is the goal, Diana learns, and bewilderment is the method.
  • As the first volume of the three-part “Bewilderment Chronicles” proceeds, Diana will undergo a transformation that will change her irrevocably, and just possibly save the world. Let the enchantment begin.

Thumbs Way Up for Diana, Herself

Loved this lovingly-told allegory of an outsider meeting her dream/nightmare come true. Every woman interested in personal freedom should check it out. I plan to read it again and have passed it on to a few of my friends. I highly recommend.

Beautiful and life changing.

I am already a fan of Martha Beck's but I wasn't quite sure what to expect with a fiction book. In fact, I put off buying this book for over a year, because I wasn't sure that I would like it. However, I read this book in one day and now feel like I need to go back with a highlighter and truly digest it a little at a time.

I still have so many leftover psychological objections to believing or even reading things that are "new-agey" or mystical/metaphysical. I'm trying to overcome these inner paradigms, but reading this book as fiction helped the more "unbelievable" aspects of the story go down easier and there were fewer blocks in my conscious mind, which hopefully will let the messages seep in more. Brilliant.

It is beautiful. No way to summarize it, just buy it, and read it. Some of the most difficult concepts to understand are more easily remembered and digested in story form. This is what Martha has done here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am everything and there is nothing I can't do.

Basically perfect

I have been a student of metaphysics for years, read a ton of books on the subject, follow Abraham Hicks, and am a 6th degree Rosicrucian and I have never read anything that so completely encompasses the modern process of awakening more so than Diana, Herself. This book has totally and completely changed my life. It has all the elements of a really great thriller and all wisdom and insight of any of the great self-help/Law of Attraction books. Martha Beck never ever ceases to amaze me and is one of the smartest people alive. The mind that wrote this book it truly and utterly brilliant. I cannot wait bot more Bewilderment Chronicles!

So grateful!

My beloved Martha Beck, how many Dianas have you met in your life to know our feelings so precisely?!
I bought this book on a whim because of an article in the O magazine written by Dr. Beck where she was identified as having authored "Diana, Herself". I liked the article, and the book title intrigued and seemed too much of a sign to be a mere coincidence - my own name being Diana and me in great need to find some way to grapple with my own challenges.
At first, I had a very difficult time identifying myself with the main character, even though the author tries (perhaps overly too much) to describe Diana as a very average woman but then putting her in extreme life circumstances. I struggled reading the first parts of the book as they seemed to be too long for a set-up for the spiritual journey that I was eager to get to. But once I got to it, I could not believe the ride that the book took me on: the insights and the parallels I saw with my own experiences at almost precise timing of my own experiences were incredible. It felt like the book was written for me specifically and for my specific journey. No, I did not have the exact same experiences that the heroine goes through, but the parallels and metaphors were so amazing that they left me stunned. I must admit that there are passages that are far beyond my own experience, but I had read similar descriptions before, so I could understand what the author was describing. Perhaps one day they will make more sense to me, but even now I am more than in awe of the incredible miracle of receiving this book at this time in my life!
My beloved Martha Beck, your words and Diana's story made me cry so many times but you also made me hopeful, and for that I am truly grateful!

Divinely Inspired Book

I think Martha Beck had angels inspiring her as she wrote this book. It is so powerful and so in line with other channeled texts messages but it is delivered in a beautiful story that is easier to digest than some of the channeled works I have read. I read it in two days as it was so exciting to get through. My husbands YPO group had it as required reading and I happened upon it and now have giving copies to many friends. A must read for all who wish to awaken and for even those who didn’t know they needed to!
