Description

From Bill Howard for Readers' Favorites: 5-stars: Though we may never understand what causes people to neglect pets, Diary of a Dumpster Pup shows us that there are often tireless volunteers who help them make it through. Beverly Keil, along with Bandit, tells the story of how this cat lover took in a helpless puppy that was found, along with nine litter-mates, in a dumpster. Through her selfless efforts Bandit goes from what would certainly have been a slow, agonizing death to a happy home. The book is packed with plenty of pictures to document the story. 54 Page Book"let"

Although the story and photos were fine, I was very disappointed to spend $13.00 on something that certainly shouldn't be called a Book. 53 pages long with photos on 34 of those pages makes for a reading time of less than 30 minutes. That certainly doesn't compare in value of other books close to the same price that have 200 to 300 pages. I bought this to give to my mom as a Christmas gift - won't do that now as it would be an embarrassment. Be WARNED of what you are buying!

Clever short story to warm your heart

Before giving this inspirational book to children to help them cope with the loss of a pet dog, I read it. Beverly tells a wonderful story in both her words & the pup's - so clever! I encourage everyone to read this short story, which should result in at least a smile or two.
Also, please consider donating to your local animal shelters - or better yet, adopt a pet, who will give you so much love in return.

What an inspiring read!

Although I wasn't physically present for this adventure, I know the author and my mother helped out a little with Bandit as well - I heard a lot of this story from people who did all of this wonderful work to help not only Bandit but the other little babies who were dumped in the garbage.

This book is a sample of what makes life so amazing. Anything we can do for these little babies not only brings satisfaction and clarity to our lives but more than that, brings joy and a fulfilled life to the animals we can help. I would hope this book will inspire others to do what Beverly and all the others did to help these animals. Pet Network has been a staple in my family's life for a long time. My family adopted 2 dogs from that organization and they have taken care of my dog when I've been visiting the Tahoe area as well. Please read the book and look into how you can help support Pet Network or any animals in need!

Congratulations Bev on writing such a wonderful account of what occurred. Congratulations to Bandit for his will to survive and thrive!!

Day by day diary of saving some darling pups!

I appreciated knowing the kind and amount of work it takes to save puppies found in a dumpster
just in time. This is a short account (doesn't take long to read) to learn what any of us could do to
help some puppies IF we were willing to take the time to invest.

A Beautiful, Gut-Wrenching, Heartwarming Love Story

When I read the opening pages of Diary of a Dumpster Pup, I had to set the book aside for a few days to regain my composure. Years ago, I hand-reared a litter of 13 puppies when their mother (our dog) was incapable of producing milk and frankly, became overwhelmed. Once I mentally prepared, I dove back in, reading the author's weekly account, tears streaming down my cheeks as I flipped page after page, consumed by Bandit's story and this caring woman (the author) who had more than enough love to share. She had no experience with dogs, never mind newborn puppies. Yet, she set her life on hold to ensure this tiny pup had the best possible start in life. I don't want to ruin the story by revealing the ending. Let's just say, the author demonstrated the true meaning of love when she put Bandit's happiness above her own.

As for the litter I hand-reared years ago, three of the puppies enriched our lives for ten great years. The others found forever homes and often came to visit their litter-mates. One day, on the other side of the rainbow bridge, I'll see my babies again. Till then, they will always have a special place in my heart.

If you're an animal lover, don't miss Diary of a Dumpster Pup!

What an amazing rescue!

Great story, great storyteller. Beverly relays the transformation from abandoned newborn pup to thriving, active puppy with caring and wit. Sharing the tales of all the many acts of sacrifice and kindness from Beverly and the larger Tahoe community is heartwarming.

Great read and fabulous story!

Just finished it last night. A despicable act turns into a heartwarming eight weeks and the author makes you feel like you are there to enjoy every minute. A down and dirty account of what happened to the famous pups after the reporters moved on from the story of their abandonment.
