One of my favorite reads of all time

I already had the series for several years now, but loved it so much that I wanted to get the collector's edition ones as well. It's a gorgeous book from cover to cover. Lots of awesome extras. This is one of the best beginnings to a series and set the tone for an awesome action packed thrill ride across Chicago. Creating something so rare and brave and original gave me so much admiration for Veronica's Roth works. She can make me feel every emotion, whether I want to or not, and come out on the other end with a deeper understanding and appreciation. This series will always be close to my heart and always on my bookshelf, unless I am reading it yet again.

Don't Do It

This book started out great. It sucked me in from the start, but then the inconsistencies in the plot/action started to show in the middle right up to the end where I was ready to scream at the stupidity of Tris' actions. I was dumb enough to read all three books and each one was worse than the one before. I suggest you save yourself the trouble and don't even start reading this series.

There were added elements in the movie that made it less teenager oriented and more exciting to a science fiction fan and writer.

it was okay

Honestly, I don't know why people keep comparing this to The Hunger Games. The only thing I see that they have in common is that society is divided: factions in Divergent, districts in The Hunger Games. Other than that, I don't really see any similarities. Oh, and there's obviously a revolution that's going to happen. Children aren't taken and pitted against each other in a fight to the death, there isn't a crazy bad guy in charge of a capital...I just don't get it. Anyway, I pretty much enjoyed the book overall. Though it wouldn't be one that I actually want to buy, I don't consider it a waste of time. When the kids in this city turn 16 they have to decide which faction they want to spend the rest of their lives in. Sometimes with dystopian books, I think the main characters are rather young for what they are supposed to be able to be doing, but I kind of think it works for this book. They're old enough to make decisions, but still young enough that if they switch from their birth faction they will easily be able to adapt. It's not surprising when Tris chooses dauntless. We're immediately drawn to Four from the moment she literally drops into that world. I love his character, and favored any part of the book that had him in it. Slowly her and Four get closer and it's rather sweet. Eric and Peter are characters that you immediately hate, and I kept wishing for someone to knock them down a peg or two. The training the initiates go thru is brutal at times but it makes Tris a stronger person more than just physically. But sometimes her abnegation habits get the best of her and land her in trouble. The climax of the story is actually believable for the most part with what happens and what Tris does. One thing that was a little out of place was her new almost obsession with having a gun to feel in control and be safe. Both inside her simulations and out. When she's fighting at the end she's got perfect aim; when did that happen? We got one training session with guns in the very beginning of their initiation and that was it really. Yes, we see her carrying one around after that sometimes, but we don't really get to see her learning it or anything. I was disappointed with one thing really at the end. Now on to the second book. Hopefully the word 'divergent' won't be repeated so often. One can only take so much of Tris thinking it's tattooed on her face or that it's totally obvious she is one to the point that she's afraid to say the word or even think it. I get that it's a big deal, but so many times it brought up it just grating. Maybe because she was clueless at to what it meant, I don't know...but sometimes it simply bugged me.

Not much collectors information in the book :(

I love the series and have all of the regular and collectors series and I have to say the extra content in the collectors series was really disappointing. It is the regular book with a little info in the back the regular book does not have. It only took me 15 mins. To read. Just getting them to have the whole series at this point. It really isn't worth it.
