Excellent guide to character design

I discovered Jazza's fantastic YouTube channel about 5 months ago, and as a character design professor I find he's an excellent resource for my students to practice at home and improve their work.

This book is really a culmination of years of online tutorials for the production art community, and you can tell that love and care has been poured into each page. The methods used here align with the professional methods of character design that I was taught in grad school, and he does a great job covering each stage of the character design process. In addition, I like how it's not confined to one drawing style, because once you understand the simplified shapes of the body you can apply those techniques to generate all sorts of characters and art styles, from flat cartoons to 3D characters.

Huge thanks to Jazza, keep up the great work, I'll keep sending viewers and readers your way!

History in the making!

I've been studying all things cartoon/animation since I discovered my love for making cartoons in 2007 at the age of 13.
I've collected all kinds of how to draw books over the years in my obsessive studies and this is by far the best I've ever received especially for the subject of character design, which is also my most favorite part of drawing.

Most books teach you how to draw a specific thing, in a specific style from a specific pose. And then it's hard to apply it to other things and your own work. But this is not like that at all.
I wish I had something like this when I was younger. This is history in the making. A new bar has been set for How To Draw authors and I can't wait to see more from Jazza!

A personal thank you to Mr. Josiah Brooks for inspiring me every day and helping to educate me in a way I didn't think obtainable. I'm glad I joined this Arty Party! Keep up the amazing work, Senpai!

I still bought the amazing book and learned a TON from it

Hey Jazza,
Your book has become my new #1 how to draw book in my collection. I think that all your talent has been rolled into one book, and that is all you can ask. I really do hope you make more books. There can be a special 'Jazza section' in my bookshelf. I also live in Australia and I think that it should have been shipped her first! But no matter. I still bought the amazing book and learned a TON from it, and as you say, I am pretty happy with how it's turned out.
Hopefully I'll see you soon in another book!

Your Mileage May Vary

Let me start by saying I was already a Jazza fan before I bought this book. I love Jazza's YouTube channel and his character design videos are what I often find myself watching and rewatching when I'm bored or need a good kick-in-the-pants reminder of the design process. I should also note that I bought the book KNOWING that it's a DESIGN instructional, NOT an art instructional. And these are both reasons why I have mixed feelings on the book: honestly, when I read through it, I wasn't impressed by the instructional content. Don't get me wrong, this is a book that I'm definitely going to look at again in the future. I just wasn't too moved because 1. I've already watched Jazza's design videos (and therefore am already very familiar with his design process, which is the core structure and lesson of the book) 2. I've been drawing and designing characters myself for nearly my entire life. I find that the book is perfectly fine for a beginner designer to intermediate level designer who's curious for some structure but not really for people who's only goal is to find an instructional book on advanced design. And honestly, I feel like that's exactly what Jazza was advertising. So I gave it a four stars because based on the experience of the designer, customer satisfaction may vary.

Also just wanted to take a sec to point out to all the people saying "the art isn't too impressive": again this isn't an art instructional, it's a design instructional. Not to mention that character design is about understanding and documenting the design in a way so it can be recreated over and over again, NOT to create the most polished illustration you possibly can.
