Description

Daniela Lais has been vegan for more than ten years and is passionate about ethical eating. She worked for many years at the long-established vegetarian/vegan restaurant Gingko in Graz, Austria, and is now based in Portland, Oregon. She is the co-author of DK's Vegan on the Go (2017). Not exactly "easy"

Good recipes, but quite a few rather a bit complicated to be considered "easy". Also several recipes call for spelt flour, yet nowhere did I see an explanation of what spelt flour is or what can be substituted. And speaking of substitutions, several recipes are made for pan sizes I don't have (such as a 10" spring form pan). You're told to make the appropriate pan substitution and adjust the baking time accordingly, but no chart is provided to help. I had to search elsewhere for this information. Again not really living up to the title's claim of easy. I suggest they either correct these faults on the next edition or remove the word easy from the title.

Lost in translation?

While many of the recipes are easy, the translation of measurements, tool size, cooking time all seems a bit off. I’ve made a few recipes that take longer to bake than outlined (by 15-20 mins, more than variance for different ovens), flavors are on the bland side, and the tool sizes don’t match for pans avail in US. I’ve definitely made better vegan baked goods from recipes on the internet. I’d think twice about this book.

Awesome vegan baking!

I absolutely love German style baking. It's just a different style of baking, with lots of flavor and not as cloyingly sweet as a lot of American style desserts are. Daniela transcribed all the delicious traditional baked goods to vegan format. If you have ever baked anything before, these will be easy. I don't think they would be hard even for a first time baker. I love the section on the winter/holiday baking.
