PERFECT!

So useful, so much great information, BUT not too densely packed and thrown at you. Instead it's broken down into wonderful sections within sections so it's easier to digest. There are so many wonderful pictures to help illustrate the points of each section as well. Really, you could have it as a coffee table book and it will be 1000 times more useful than any coffee table book! I had to buy a $186 landscape architecture book for a class and this book is so much more useful to me. It briefly touches on the drawing aspect, the rest is theory and principles (1/3), garden styles (1/3) then plants, materials, and resources (1/3). I think it's great for professional designers but also for interested homeowners, AND it's a great supplement for the aspiring architects out there.

Best out of collection of landscape design books I have purchased

This book goes into just the right amount of detail. It doesn't get too technical, but just enough to answer most of the questions of why you are reading the book. Tons of great inspirational landscapes and pictures throughout. I'm glad I purchased it! I'm always thinking of new designs and this book helped me out by allowing me to visualize different styles all in one place.

A textbook lesson on what to do with a blank canvas

So good. I picked this for myself for Christmas this year. We’re finally done the inside of our home. Now to focus on the backyard. Our yard has basically been cleaned out over the course of seven years. Now it’s a blank canvas- which is daunting. I know I wanted one area for a garden full of color. But I needed ideas on just basic division of the space. I also know color matters, and foliage. This book is so informative on every area. Think of this as a textbook of landscaping. If you wanted to learn how to dissect a frog you’d follow the instructions in a textbook. Same idea here. I did buy garden planning books as well for the garden areas. Can’t wait till spring.

This book is amazing! I cannot recommend it more highly!

Honestly, this is the best landscaping book I've ever seen. It was given to me as a gift and I liked it so much I ordered one as a gift for someone else. I always wanted a "backyard paradise" but never understood how to express what I wanted. This book is beautifully printed with high quality color photographs and it walks you through every step from figuring out what you want, to laying out the design, to precise details on how to do the work yourself (if you wish).

Tons of information

Are you wanting to design a Japanese, modernist, Mediterranean or water garden? This book has these and all other gardens you would expect in a DIY book. It is filled with beautiful designs.
This book is another must-have for you landscaping DIYers. It goes into detail about how to design gardens from different countries/culture, great photos and ideas and tons of information you won't see in other books. This book is from UK designers, and gives an English view of design, but It has really great ideas, and is a great reference for U.S. gardens.

Great book, but arrived damaged

Very informative book, with everything you need to know about landscaping. Arrived damaged- top right corner was crushed. Still readable but not what expected for a new product. Better cushioned package would help.

Good buy- similar to a college book in quality

Really nice info and example photos. This is somewhat helpful with my work as a landscape designer. Not exactly for homeowners wanting a specific type of hardscape project or nuanced information about landscaping, but its a general overview of landscape design and principles and also has a nice collection of plants cataloged in the back

Beautiful Book-So worth it

I have a lot of landscaping books - I was a bit wary of ordering this one but I am SO glad I did. Even tho it's from the UK the information in this book is very well presented, the photos are a great addition, the details on how and why along with plant information are wonderful. I'm experienced at landscaping but every once in a while a great book comes along to help me either remember or apply a new design. Love this book......

Wonderful

This book is a gem. I have been slowly adding landscaping to my 4-acre property. I have read many things in print and online. This book is the first book I have stumbled upon that uses an almost textbook approach. It's not just ideas, concepts, or photos. It's all of these. I've been inspired with several new ideas and I'm only in the early sections of the book. Love it!
