Good read, but didn't wow me

Another well-written novel by the fantastic Ms. Draven! She certainly has a way with words, which flow well and leap off the page. Everything is described beautifully and easy to visualize. I only recently started reading fairytale retellings, and I'm glad I started with this one. I do like Beauty and the Beast, and this definitely kept with some similar elements.

Backstory was interesting and added to the characterization, without being too distracting. I really did feel bad for the MMC and his son, and truly wanted them to break the curse.

Biggest problem was, I didn't like the female MC. I'm not sure what it was about her, but she annoyed me more often than not and I couldn't relate to her at all. I never quite felt the love between her and the male MC (though there was definitely sexual chemistry). It almost felt forced to me.

The first 65% of the book was very, very slow, dragged in some parts, and I found myself skimming through pages. The last 35% was exciting and is where all the action happened. But I did feel that the book could have been shorter, and still achieved the same result. Of course, as with all romances, I do love a happy ending, and this book definitely had a satisfactory one.

Overall an enjoyable read, and while I did not *love* of this particular work, I did like it. I have read this author's other works, and have enjoyed them more. I will continue to look for future works from Ms. Draven.

A treat for me...

This is my third full novel by Grace Draven and like the first two (Radiance and Master of Crows), it was riveting.

It has a magical medieval atmosphere and it contains action, adventure, romance, curses, violence, and a basis in the Beauty and the Beast fairy-tale as well as hints of others. Most importantly, it has well drawn main characters, Ballard and Louvaen, plus their families, a wise-cracking wizard, Ballard’s household staff, and evil villains. All come to vivid life off the page and gather in your head in surround sound and vision.

The plot is excellent. This book completely surprised me with where it took me. It is nothing like what I expected. Instead, it is better. Louvaen is so tough and yet soft. Ballard is so ugly yet breathtaking. I love the way they found each other’s beauty and showed it to me.

There is excellent humour, banter, loving, protection of loved ones, battling villains of more than one variety, some magic, and pure escapist enjoyment. The book lulled me into a beautiful satisfaction with the love story. No insta-love here. Rather, there was a slow build-up to the love… sigh… Then later I fidgeted in my seat, desperately hoping good would overcome evil and the lovers would stay unharmed. I was really worried about my beloved main and non-evil secondary characters. Evidence of truly excellent writing.

Grace Draven has definitely seduced me into loving the fantasy genre, something I never expected I would enjoy. I guess you just can’t ignore superior storytelling. I was carried away to another time and place. The world building was easy to follow for an impatient reader like me. I’m so sad to be leaving this world.

More, please.

I say it's a good short, not a novel because a great deal ...

There is a decent novella or short story hidden here. The main characters are rounded, the main Beauty and the Beast story is given some interesting twists and angles - a 3 part curse for instance. One villain is fleshed out, the other is standard issue. I say it's a good short, not a novel because a great deal of text is taken up with sex scenes which add nothing to the story or characterizations, they simply take up space. I skipped most of them and had no difficulties following subsequent events in the story. Therefore, story didn't need them.

This is what a Beauty and the Beast retelling should be

I’m so happy I picked up Entreat Me to read and review. I didn’t read the blurb; I’d just seen it around on social. I’ve found a new favorite in the indie author business. Once I whittle down my TBR list, I’ll be picking up more of Grace’s books.

The plot, characters, writing, and romance in this story made it well worth my time in reading. I don’t find many books that focus on more seasoned characters, especially in the fantasy genre. I truly appreciate that aspect of this novel.

The author thought out the curse magic and made it both part of the world development and the character development. If there was one thing I wished I’d understood more technically, it would be a more specific resolution to the breaking of the curse. Regardless, that didn’t hurt my read.

All the feels!

Favorite So Far ❤️

I found Grace Dravens books when I saw a add on Facebook for Radiance. I read that and then immediately ordered Eidolon, they were beautiful written and made me fall in love with the way her characters start out disgusted by the other but end up building a relationship and loving each other anyway. Entreat Me was no different, the were disgusted by each others appearance but slowly built a relationship and loved each other and I can't recommend this book enough to anyone. My favorite Beauty and The Beast retelling by far!

All the Stars

This book was everything I love in a retelling. A magical setting and something that feels very true to the original story while also turning it on its bottom and completely making it the authors own. I knew I would love it because who wouldn’t love Grace Draven giving them beauty and the beast? And hell she did that. And it was glorious.
