Description

The definitive collection of poems from a writer whose transgressive legacy and raw, funny, acutely observant writing have left a vivid mark Illuminated by a resonant voice and conjuring the desperation and absurdity of being human, the perceptive poetry of Charles Bukowski transcends its particular moment to speak to us as forcefully today as when it was written. Taking on a wide range of subjects—from love to death to sex to writing—Bukowski’s unvarnished poetry touches on enduring concerns while remaining sharply aware of the day-to-day. With his keen eye for the ridiculous and the troubling, Bukowski speaks to the deepest longings and strangest facets of the human experience. Granular yet expansive, this is tough, unrelenting poetry touched by grace. This is the essential Bukowski. --This text refers to the hardcover edition. Charles Bukowski is one of America’s best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of two. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for over fifty years. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp . Abel Debritto , a former Fulbright scholar and current Marie Curie fellow, works in the digital humanities. He is the author of Charles Bukowski, King of the Underground , and the editor of the Bukowski collections On Writing , On Cats , and On Love . --This text refers to the hardcover edition. `The best poet in America' Jean Genet`He brought everybody down to earth, even the angels' Leonard Cohen --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. It's pure Bukowski

It's pure Bukowski. If you understand that, then you will love this collection or think it worthless drivel of a dirty and pathetic man. I loved it.

Bukowski at his best...

Loved every line only wish it were longer.

This is what Bukowski does best, short windows letting you look into his view of his world. Bukowskis writing is not forced, it’s just Bukowski flowing his reality on paper.

Great read.

Profound Collection In One Book

Mind punching poems that grab you by the balls. Always raw, unapologetic and often brutal this tribute to Bukowski doesn't disappoint.

Bukowski has written best poems.

I am big fan and can't get enough of his stuff. I've read most of these before and I will again.
