An overview for the beginner but not "Extreme"

I gave this book two stars because it doesn't live up to it's title of "Extreme " wilderness survival and I don't believe it is the best survival book out there. As other reviewers have stated I also have a library of survival books and while I will add this to my library it is certainly not the best. It does have some redeeming features but suffers from the problem of covering too much and not going deep enough into most topics. For example, trying to cover things like martial arts, prepping and infantry tactics in two or three pages. Probably why they call it "Extreme". The book does serve as a checklist of topics that someone interested in survival should explore and might want to become proficient in. The author does a good job of pointing out the importance of the rule of threes; that most people die in a lost person survival situation from hypothermia and/or dehydration but that's not news unless you are just beginning to learn about survival. The book is attractively printed and has good photographs. Just be aware it is more of an overview.

A great read and manual for the novice to the experienced outdoorsman

Craig has delivered a manual to not only guide the average Joe as he seeks to begin an outdoor pastime but also arm him with the knowledge to survive the potentialities that go along with it. The book is a lucid read especially to be such an instructional guide. It's layed out in such a way that examples and real life stories intertwine practically with the subject matter and information that Craig is trying to convey. I love it... can't read it just once.

Comprehensive!

This is an easy to read manual that covers life saving information in way that is both educational and even entertaining at times. I enjoy how each chapter starts off with a true story and the author reflects on that story. Some of the topics covered are situations where you may be with a group, and / or defending yourself (surviving). I haven't seen this in other books on the topic and never thought of it until now. Very well rounded and informative. Nature Reliance School offers top-notch training, second to none.
Craig Caudill has put a lot of effort into this manual and it shows. I started watching his YouTube channel, then training with NRS and now studying his material...excellent all around.

Well rounded...

While most survival books concentrate on some of the skills needed, Craig shows you how to avoid becoming a statistic in the first place. He brings to light several subjects about survival not normally discussed by others because they aren't the "macho, Rambo-esque" skills that drive ratings.

The inclusion of actual events and then breaking down what went wrong or right reinforces the topics covered. He brings decades of real experience to the Wilderness Safety/Survival scene and his credentials stand for themselves without exaggeration or "padding his resume`". He doesn't do stupid stunts but rather explains how to avoid them and reduce your risk of injury or death.

Craig is the real deal, not a made for TV liability to your safety, well being and survival.
