Contradition. And Personal Vendetta?

The author seems to have a personal vendetta against many other Feng Shui books (like Feng Shui for Dummies, which is a far better book). She has all these lists of subjects that she feels are "myths", then gives her opinion of the subject. She tends to be A LOT more scientific and hardnose textbook in explaining Feng Shui, which is fine but she lacks A LOT of the spiritual side of Feng Shui. Also, she rarely mentions energy....At best she does mention the psychological and anthropological side of Feng Shui.

I found it amusing and a contradiction that while she poo-poos any and all Feng Shui good fortune items and any other item or way of thought that's considered to be a positive influence in one's life in a spiritual and metaphysical sense--and as I said--is more into hard, scientific "facts", but later on in her book she talks about her belief in numerology.

Here are some psychological facts for the author I'd like to give: If a person wants a, let's say a bamboo flute, and believes it will help bring good fortune to them, I say buy it because it probably will! Even if it really doesn't give one good fortune--in and of itself--it very well could for the person who believes it will. For instance, they want it and buys it, feeling good about the purchase, helping to make them happy, being happy gives them a positive feeling to perhaps do more positive things in their life to make their life better. A "chain" like that happens all the time in life. It's not always about something directly, giving you "good luck"; it also about what it does to help you feel happy and motivated to do more positive things in one's life.

Amazing Book!

I gave this book five stars because it is the only book out there that truly breaks down Feng Shui and the 'why' behind it. It dispels the rumors that have been passed down through generations and gets to the core of what Feng Shui is truly about and what it was established to be. She is an amazing author and articulates all of her helpful information through this easy-to-digest book.

To The Point! Fantastic Research & Easy To Execute Principles!

About six years ago I became interested in Feng Shui and began picking up books to learn more. Every book contradicted itself and was filled with a lot of superstitions. As you can imagine I quickly lost interest and gave up. A few months ago I began searching on line and found Cathleen's book. After researching Cathleen more and her amazing accomplishments and clients I bought her book. What a breath of fresh air! She has spent 20 years researching and getting down to the facts of why these Feng Shui principles where created and why they have been so effective for the last 4000 years. Cathleen has written a beautiful book; perfect for any beginner to easily understand and begin on their own. I am thankful everyday that I found Feng Shui that Makes Sense. My Partner and I were able to make simple changes in our home with the furnishing and items we already had and thank goodness we did. In the last four months we have both experienced amazing turn around's for the BETTER in our careers, wealth and family aspiration areas! We give credit where credit is due = Thank you Cathleen for such a down to earth and practical teaching instrument for everyone to benefit from! You will not be disappointed! May your compass be your guide to your own abundance and prosperity; NOT luck or a trinket! Thank you Cathleen for sharing all your hard earned knowledge so we may benefit along with you.

The best Feng Shui book you can buy

I have read many books on Feng Shui and have spent countless hours trying to make sense of the mass amount of information out there. Reading this book finally cleared things up for me - - I wish I would have found this book first! The author dispels the popular Feng Shui myths and gives step by step directions on how you can put Feng Shui into practice utilizing compass directions (it's not hard!), instead of the arbitrary Bagua map that so many books are pushing. The author believes that you shouldn't be motivated out of fear, but out of trust - - I love this positive approach! If you want to learn about Feng Shui, this is the only book you need!

For the 1st time...

Many of us have literally bought into Feng Shui. We've purchased 3-legged toads, crystals, and coins in hopes of improving our luck. These "lucky charms" won't improve your luck but reading this well-written book will give you solid advice on how to create a wonderful, clean and beautiful space. Finally... a Feng Shui book that makes sense! Please don't waste your money on another hanging flute! Purchase this book instead.

THIS BOOK MAKES FENG SHUI FINALLY MAKE SENSE!!!!

A friend told me about Cathleen McCandless and her book Feng Shui that Makes Sense. She is working with one of Cathleen's certified consultants. I bought the book and love it. I have always been a huge Denise Linn fan as well.

I had been frustrated with black hat feng shui and had found many of the others too complicated. This book explains the concepts clearly and simply. I have been working on the floor plan and applying the compass directions. As a result, it moved all the bangua areas by about 90 degrees. Since my house faces almost due east, it moved prosperity from the back left area to the front left area and moved the love/partnership area to the back left. It changes how I view my home. It has been interesting to see how my intuition had been correct in the past because there are already appropriate things in place. For instance, I insisted on painting the bathroom in the Family area RED 10 years ago when black hat feng shui advised blue/green. This leads me to believe that my instincts were correct but black hat feng shui wasn't making logical sense. My home already feels healthier.

You need to get this book! It will change your life.

Fabulous, Easy, Good Sense

This book explains the history and principles behind feng shui and is just good common sense. It helped improve my home renovation with terrific and quite practical ideas on finishes and improved furniture placement. As the author says, you can get deeper into Feng Shui and she offers you the opportunity to do so,but I really loved the first 2/3 of the book, where the basic principles are explained which just seems to make everything in your home work better and feel better.

The BEST guide to Feng Shui !

I bought this book a month ago, and couldn't put it down. It is the clearest presentation of the ancient art of Feng Shui I have read. My previously favorite book on Feng Shui was Karen Kingston's "Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui". While that is still a cherished resource, Ms. McCandless' book goes a step further, in that it addresses many of the inconsistencies and rather arcane "cures" one encounters when reading several authors' versions of "Feng Shui". It doesn't help clarity when there are several "schools" of the discipline, and those are further muddled by Western students who then take what they understood to be true and run with it. You get something similar to that game where you pass a phrase around a circle, whispering one person to the next, and when the last person states it aloud, it bears little to no resemblance to the original phrase! Cathleen McCandless does a great job of covering all the essentials, and making a clear and sensible yet totally readable job of it. If you don't have any books on Feng Shui, just get THIS one. It has all you need.
