Features & Highlights

  • “A lyrical masterpiece.” —
  • School Library Journal
  • (starred review)
  • Originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and later as a tribute to Walter Dean Myers, this stirring and inspirational poem is
  • New York Times
  • bestselling author and National Book Award finalist Jason Reynolds’s rallying cry to the young dreamers of the world.
  • For Every One
  • is just that: for every one. For every one person. For every one dream. But especially for every one kid. The kids who dream of being better than they are. Kids who dream of doing more than they almost dare to dream. Kids who are like Jason Reynolds, a self-professed dreamer. Jason does not claim to know how to make dreams come true; he has, in fact, been fighting on the front line of his own battle to make his own dreams a reality. He expected to make it when he was sixteen. Then eighteen. Then twenty-five. Now, some of those expectations have been realized. But others, the most important ones, lay ahead, and a lot of them involve kids, how to inspire them. All the kids who are scared to dream, or don’t know how to dream, or don’t dare to dream because they’ve NEVER seen a dream come true. Jason wants kids to know that dreams take time. They involve countless struggles. But no matter how many times a dreamer gets beat down, the drive and the passion and the hope never fully extinguish—because just having the dream is the start you need, or you won’t get anywhere anyway, and that is when you have to take a leap of faith. A pitch-perfect graduation, baby, or inspirational gift for anyone who needs to me reminded of their own abilities—to dream.

This is for the courageous...."

I've yet to read something by Jason Reynolds that I didn't like and For Every One did not disappoint. It's a simple letter/poem full of kind wisdom and inspiration. There is room in the poem for honesty, fear, courage, passion, dreams and even room for lighting the way when the road becomes long and often dark.

Jason Reynolds has a way with imagery and word play that is very inviting. He can turn words and phrases into thoughtful pauses and make you stop in your tracks. I recommend reading the book aloud and slowly. It's not just a YA book either. Everyone has dreams and this gentle book can be a way to talk to those dreams.

MIght be a good choice to buy for graduates

This book is in the form of a letter--a very SHORT letter--to dreamers, basically about how to achieve your dreams. Kind of. Jason Reynolds just says to stick with it, go, and hope for the best. It was a VERY fast read. Seemed like it would be appropriate to give to high school graduates, since some of them do not know yet what they want out of life or how to achieve those dreams. I loved Jason Reynolds' "A Long Way Down" so I was a little disappointed with this book. It was just VERY SHORT. Good message, but there's not enough there.

Jason Reynolds started out a poet and it is absolutely beautiful to see his letter to himself in poetry

This book made me put down a paper for college and read. It is profound. Jason Reynolds started out a poet and it is absolutely beautiful to see his letter to himself in poetry. I found quotes that meant something to everyone I know. I even had to buy another copy because I just gave it to someone who needed his words as guidance in her life. It's not a difficult read but every time I open the book, I find something else to help me through whatever is going on in my life.

It’s a perfect gift. To yourself

This book is a breathtaking letter to the hopers and dreamers, as well as the doubters and strugglers of the world.

I found myself gasping at the truth and beauty in many of the verses.

It’s a perfect gift. To yourself...or to someone you love.

Gut-wrenchingly Honest and Inspirational

I received a copy from NetGalley for an honest review, and I'm glad I did. This letter is inspirational and a short enough read that the teens I know who need it will devour it up. It's gut-wrenchingly honest and inspiring. It's not a roadmap to success. Instead, it's nourishment for the battle - the battle to go after your dream, no matter what it is.

I'm buying a book for my office.

Breathtaking

This is the most beautifully honest and raw thing I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. I cried. And I’m now making a list of all the people in whose hands I must put this book.
