Description

Single mother Amy Parkens feels trapped by a boring job, low pay, and no time for her young daughter. But that's before $200,000 in cold, hard cash arrives in an unmarked box. Desperately needing the money, Amy fears a setup, or a connection to her mother's suicide twenty years earlier. So she sets out to find the source. A decent, responsible small-town doctor, Ryan Duffy didn't expect to inherit a fortune from his electrician father, who had millions stashed away in the attic. Did it come from extortion, robbery, or some other terrible crime? Painful as it is, Ryan is drawn to his father's dark past, determined to find the truth. Desperate for answers, Amy and Ryan soon cross paths on a dangerous quest that takes them through a labyrinth of deception and blackmail— leading them to a man of unfathomable power who holds the key to their fortunes . . . and their lives. James Grippando is a New York Times bestselling author with more than twenty books to his credit, including those in his acclaimed series featuring Miami criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck. Grippando was a trial lawyer for twelve years before the publication of his first novel in 1994. He lives in South Florida with his wife, three children, two cats, and a golden retriever named Max, who has no idea he's a dog.

I really like James Grippando’s work

I really like James Grippando’s work. Theme is involved and certainly plausible. Keeps you involved and doesn’t reveal the outcome until very late in the book. Excellent read. Don

An Interesting Premise

The story is based upon an interesting premise of two people receiving large sums of money, without a return address. These two people, Ryan and Amy, are complete strangers. They are determined to find out where the money came from. They stop at nothing, not caring if lives are lost in the process. Not caring if people are hurt by their pasts. I don't believe anyone would go through the lengths they did to track the money. They go up against someone evil, who is as determined as they are.
The story became like a tennis match, watching the ball go back and forth between the two players. At times, the story moved quickly but most of the time it was slow.
