Features & Highlights

  • Miami attorney Jack Swyteck is involved in the most explosive criminal trial of his career -- a case that starts with a murder on a military base and concludes with a shocking surprise that will change Jack's life forever.
  • A beautiful woman comes to see Jack and begs him to represent her. She says she's about to be arrested for the murder of her husband, an officer stationed at Guantanamo Bay. Having no expertise in military law and sensing that the woman isn't telling him the entire truth, Jack turns her down. Then she drops a bombshell: She claims she's the adoptive mother of Jack's biological son -- a child he's never met. Either Jack must represent her or he'll never see the boy.
  • So Jack agrees, but with great foreboding. He has an unreliable client -- a blackmailer who just might be a murderer -- and he has to travel to Gitmo and on to Havana to tussle with people who clearly have a lot to hide. This is a case with as many twists and turns as it has unanswered questions, and the personal toll on Jack won't end until he's forced to confront the ultimate surprise witness in a trial that rocks the city of Miami.
  • In signature Grippando style,
  • Hear No Evil
  • is an intricate, fast-paced, and captivating thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Don't just suspend your disbelief; put it into a coma

"thrillers" shouldn't have to have so many extreme coincidences, some of which seem to lead nowhere,,and the ending did not satisfactorily deal with the plot and characters involved in my opinion,

Bit of a mishmash

This rather strange story finds Miami attorney Jack Swyteck having his arm twisted to defend the attractive Lindsey Hart, who is accused of killing her Marine Corps husband one morning at their home on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. As it turns out, the husband is the son of a noted Cuban exile who has become rich enough to run his own Cuban refuge rescue service. Needless to say, Jack’s name is mud around Miami.

Jack is completely stonewalled by the military in “Gitmo.” Surprisingly, he is offered assistance by the Cuban military which has extensive surveillance of the American sector. But that is only for starters in the surprise dept; Jack also visits his mother’s childhood home in Cuba and finds far more than he anticipated. All of these threads and more finally come together in Lindsey’s trial.

Overall, the book is interesting but it is a bit of a hodgepodge of this and that. It’s almost like the author was not sure of what story he was writing.

Must obtain more books by this writer!

I have just finished this book, "Hear No Evil" by James Grippando. What a find! From the beginning it roped me in. I just had to find out more. Each page furthered the plot, and contained essential story twists. Not once did I find myself skimming any "boring" parts. I didn't find any.
t have read one or two negative reviews of the book, which surprises me. But each to his own. One stated it was unrealistic (my words), and over the top. Well, how many authors confine themselves to that which is totally realistic? And going over the top, or stepping out of the box, is what keeps the reader wanting more.
Each plot twist, each surprising event, however unrealistic or coincidental - yes, there were a few coincidences - was handled so well by the writer that as I read I felt it was plausible - at the time. And isn't that what's important? Maybe the other detractors of the book would prefer to read non-fiction, but as a work of fiction, I think it stood the test for entertainment and knowledge expounding. I learned a little bit about the Cuban refugees and their plight from a writer who had done his research. This was cleverly used as backstory.
Others have outlined briefly what the story is about, so there is no need for me to add to that. Suffice it to say, I am now going to be looking for more books by this author.
