Please Kill Alex & Be Done With It!

I have read and thoroughly enjoyed Konrath's Jack Daniels series until this one and the one previous. They have gotten progressively more graphically violent and "Fuzzy Navel" was just too ludicrous, ridiculous and "Ramboish". Although it was only 271 pages, it dragged like 600. OMG!!! It was bad enough that Alex wasn't killed in the previous book when she was the main protagonist but now that she's still alive after 2 books it's just plain crazy!!! And the way, each short chapter switched to another character talking was extremely annoying and made the reading very choppy. Then insult was added to injury when you FINALLY make it to the final page and you're left hanging as to which of Jackie's loved ones is killed; what a cheap shot!!! I will give the sequel "Cherry Bomb" a try and then if Konrath doesn't "clean up his act" and go back to his original ways, I am totally done with him.

Solid but not the best

This was a solid entry in the "Jack" Daniels series, but not the best. It was very entertaining and fast paced, easily read in one day. There was an interesting twist with a couple of the main characters in the series that added some humor, but still maybe not a necessary twist. The endind is a cliff hanger, so the reviewer that didn't like it needs to deal with it. I felt that it in a way made the book. Some of the humor is a little tired, maybe running a little too long, but it still added maybe the best laugh of the book. If you are a fan of the series a definit must.

An amazing series

If you haven't read this series yet and you like mystery/crime books, you should probably start...just sayin'. They are centered around Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels of the Chicago Police Department. I don't want to say too much on the plot here since this is the 5th in the series, but I will say that this was my favorite one. It takes place in roughly 8 hours and you are at a go, go, go pace the whole time. These novels are literally laugh out loud funny while having a heavy plot at the same time. I needed the comedy to stomach some of the murders Jack deals with. The characters, especially her new and old partner, really grabbed my attention and made me fall in love with them (in a you crack me up sort of way).

Just a warning, the content in these is heavy on the blood and sick murders, but the comedy balances it out nicely, I think. The first one in the series is called Whiskey Sour if you want to check them out. They are all named after drinks and have that drink on the cover.

Fuzzy Navel (Jack Daniels Mysteries)

I love Jack Daniels. She is a kick ass cop as well as a woman. She is intelligent and funny but her job sure takes a toll on her family, friends and boyfriends (no one is safe just because they are in the last book). I really hope this series keeps going for a long time and just wish JA Konrath could write faster - it's hard to wait on the next installment of this series.
