Description

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ xa0You will learn German quickly and be happy to share what you learned I think this was a great book for me to begin learning German for the first time. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn. I wanted to learn because many movies I enjoy have a lot of German dialect and it would be great to understand without subtitles. The audio was the best because it helped understand the lessons better. -Brandy M ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rewarding and informative launguage textbook As someone who wants to expand their language skills, I reached out for this textbook to make a good start. It is very accessible, and I like how it is broken down into chunks that can be done daily and gives you work to practice. The rules are explained very well to deal with the particulars of German. And it includes a set of language audio files, so definitely a great deal! -Thomas Myers ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Finally have my own copy Finally have my own copy on German Grammar. This book has lovely structure kind of like a dictionary, where there are columns of same sentences in German versus in English, which makes it easier to find similarities between both languages and it helps to memorize it. This is great for beginner level such as mine. -Amazon Customer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gréât for new as well as returning students I really got a lot out of this coursebook as I am currently to recapture and increase my past skills in German. So I really like the emphasis on learning grammar through conversational use of specific vocabulary—instead of learning the grammatical rules first before applying them to the spoken language -Amazon Customer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book provides a lot of good lessons. I went into reading this book with a very small vocabulary of German words and I do feel that I've learned a bit more. I can see going through it more than once to get more practice. -Elizabeth Atkins ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastisch!!! I love this book!! I forgot so much German over the last forty years and I picked it up again right away with this book. THANK YOU!! -Hazel Graep ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Recommend 100% Item was outstanding, product was spot on and delivered on stated date. This is not a book for beginners

If you know some German this might be a pretty good book. However, if you are a beginner it is not (in my opinion). Lessons 1 and 2 are okay, but starting with Lesson 3 - Definite and indefinite articles - this book is not for a beginner with a beginner's knowledge of German. The early use of past tense verbs, combined with the use of the many variants of case -- Nominative, Accusative and Dative -- and gender is well beyond the ability of the beginner language learner. It may be helpful as I progress. But I'm a beginner now and this book only makes me want to quit.
Here's an example -- see what you think. This is only lesson 3. Page 18
1. Ich kenne einen Mann, der in der Nähe wohnt.
2. Ich habe einen Mann auf einer Party getroffen. Jetzt gehe ich mit dem Mann aus.
The Instruction is: "In the first sentence the indefinite article einen is in the accusative because "Mann" is the direct object in the sentence. ... In the second sentence der becomes dem because the definite article comes after 'mit' which always takes the dative."

Good if you have a household member helping you and you've had 1 semester in school.

I bought this book to help my family members learn German. It's helpful with the lessons and answers at the end of each lesson, but it's too advanced for people who are really starting from scratch.

My wife and daughter are both learning German and I ordered it for them ... now they opened it and fell apart. They don't even know what to do as it starts far in ... so maybe it should not say beginners ... but who am I to say ...

outdated and old fashioned phrases

I used this product to help a student learning German. The phrases and teachings in this book need to be updated. Terrible choice

Numerous mistakes, with poor explanations of concepts

It's amazing how this book made it to press with all the obvious errors it has. Somebody neglected to proof read it before printing it.

The explanations of grammar topics range from good down to poor. The Subjunctive chapter in particular is awful.

Not written by English Speakers

First thing you notice - the author/s aren’t native English speakers. There are simple sentences completely incorrectly written.
Also a lot of the explanations don’t make sense, being simplified so much they aren’t helpful. Try a different book.
