Description

"Heather Harris is hands down one of my favourite writers. I love everything about her books and am just a little bit jealous ofxa0anyone who gets to read her for the first time." - Charles de Lint, best-selling author of the Newford Series (writing for Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine). "I had a blast reading thisxa0series! Heather G. Harris has a marvellous voice and a great world. If you like Urban Fantasy, in the realm of Patricia Briggs' Mercedes Thompson, or Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, you should check this out!" - Todd McCaffrey, best-selling author of the Dragonriders of Pern series. "Heather G Harris is an author of spectacular and quite unusual talent: no matter what subject or scene, you're all-in, totally engrossed, white-knuckling your book all the way to the end. Every new book from her feels like a visit from your best friend, a wild ride, outrageously funny, saucy, comforting and dramatic all at the same time. This is gold standard Urban Fantasy. Five stars, bring on the next one!" - Lauretta Hignett, best-selling author of the Imogen Grey series. "Heather G Harris has created a unique world with dragons, wizards, vampires, shifters and more, all living together in fragile harmony. She creates charactersxa0that resonate, charactersxa0I can root for, and I find myself thinking about them long after I close the book. The Other Realm series got me excited about Urban Fantasy all over again, and Harris has been added to my short list of authors who are automatic buys for me." - Kim McDougall, best-selling author of the Valkyrie Bestiary series. "I love Heather G. Harris's novels. Heather is a storytelling genius, and her books are truly magical!" - Brogan Thomas, best-selling author of the Creatures of the Otherworldxa0series.

One of my favorite series!!!

Jessica “Jinx” Sharp is a private investigator whose skills now extend to the realm of the “Other,” now that she’s been exposed to and has become a part of it. But when she is contacting about investigating the death of a dryad by his distraught widow, suddenly her world is turned upside down once more. As Jinx starts digging into Reggie’s past, she finds that his death may be linked to a new kind of drug that is seriously harmful if it is taken by anyone who is “Other.” Most of all, she wishes that she could enlist the help of Inspector Zach Stone, despite his betrayal, although she can’t get ahold of him. Along the way, she gets herself involved with Emory, a handsome and charismatic dragon who won’t stop flirting with her… and maybe she likes it when he does.

This book was one big rollercoaster, and I loved every single second of it!!! Jinx is a sassy queen as usual, and I absolutely love the snarky comments she makes to people when they try to disrespect her. The action was superb, and the banter absolutely hilarious!!! As for Emory, that charming dragon has completely wormed his way into my heart. The plot twists in this book were both brilliant and shocking, and you will definitely want to throw things at times. And that cliffhanger at the end will leave you desperate for more. Harris truly has a gift, and you can’t help but be sucked into this complex yet utterly enchanting world she has created. 5 freaking stars!!!

Can’t wait to see how this plays out!

This book is a little hard for me to rate! I loved what the cliffhanger sets up to be book 3 and progress on Jinx’s major story line. However, first person past tense isn’t on my list of favorite writing styles. It really took me a while to get into the story because of the use of it. During the first book I convinced myself it was like a film noir detective telling the story after the case, but it was a lot harder to do with this one. I think this is partly because Jinx is a bit flat when she’s not partnered with some one, which was most of the first half of the book. Also I don’t love bring down the drug dealers plots, and the first part of the book was definitely heavily focused on that part. I truly hated the addition of Pipers to the world. They’re abilities make no sense. They can control non-sentient animals, but they’re actually controlling things scientifically defined as sentient and mythical creatures that would be sentient if they function as described in the book. Where the last ones villain caught me unaware I called this one very early and I think that’s partly because Jinx was hand fed clues for a good chunk. I really enjoyed Emory, but since we have the insta love troupe and with how quickly Stone was forgotten I’m hoping this isn’t leading to a love triangle! Speaking of Stone, after his singular appearance I’m far less intrigued. Overall, I’m curious to see where this series goes, but I sadly did not enjoy this one nearly as much!

Best of both worlds, mystery/ thriller and fantasy!

I was an avid thriller/mystery reader before I got hooked on fantasy and that's literally the only genre I've been reading these past 15 years! I was delighted to have found this series, which combines all the reasons I love fantasy, with a good dose of mystery/thriller! Best of both worlds comes together with such panache, such a brain teaser and magical beings in a brilliant way. And it's such fun! I loved book 1 but book 2 is even better. I have to admit, Jinx is a character I so easily fell in love with. She's sharp, snarky, takes no nonsense from anyone, and her inner thoughts are so humourous. From her reaction to the Other world in the previous book, I knew I had found someone I could totally relate to, or rather, aspire to be! See? That's MY fantasy setting in, that's how great Heather has written Jinx, that I want to be her! And the fact that she has the attention of 3 gorgeous men all vying for her, is a plus! Wonder who will actually win? Nate, Emory or Stone? I honestly am devastated that I have to wait for the next chapter in this saga, I almost feel like a Vampire who's meal has just escaped, my fangs are out but I have to wait for my next "meal". The anticipation is very tangible, bring it on, Heather, quickly!

Detective mystery, urban fantasy, hint of romance, loyal dog!

I loved this! Jinx is back, and this time she’s got a new case that may have ties to her parents’ murders. Emory, the dragon Prime also has a vested interest in this case since one of his dragons is involved.
I love how this author is able to make me laugh out loud with characters’ banter, even though there are heavier topics like murder and grief. I like that the author continues to show that grief for Jinx, even though her parents’ deaths happened seven years ago. She is able to empathize with others who have lost loved ones as well because of this.
I liked seeing Jinx’s “pack” expand to more friends who care about her, and I hope that remains the case since the ending of this one has me all upset! I don’t want her to go back to shutting people out of her life.

Furthermore, and a personal note, is that I am totally Team Emory! Stone is really acting dumb in this one, and he has a long road ahead of him if he wants to earn Jinx’s trust back. Again, I’m fully Team Emory. Also, Gato is still the best!!

Read this series if you love urban fantasy, detective mysteries, loyal dogs, magical creatures, and a bit of romance!

Love this series!!

Jinx is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters! I love the she is endearingly awkward at times, but still a fierce FMC. This book is even better than the first and I really loved the first book in this series. Book 2 picks up where we left off and it grabbed me from the start. This story packs a punch, with a murder mystery, an Other drug cartel, a drunken griffin, an adorable hellhound, and a sexy dragon, with a little romance thrown in for good measure. It’s just great fun to read and book 3 can’t get here soon enough.

Great Supernatural PI with a hot dragon shifter!

I absolutely loved diving back into Jinx’s urban fantasy world. While Jinx is now aware of the Other world parallel to ours and she has moved to be closer to the action, so to speak, her life hasn’t changed much and she’s still investigating regular old cheating spouses. That is, until the Dryad she met comes to see her and ask if Jinx can investigate her husband’s murder.

Jinx finds herself pulled once again into a deadly world of vampyrs, werewolves, and killer unicorns. Thank goodness she can count on her hellhound, Gato, and the magical dagger, Glimmer, that keeps just appearing at convenient times. And while she hasn’t seen Inspector Stone in too long, she finds herself spending quite a bit of time with the very intriguing Dragon Prime, Emory.

Once again full of action, sexual tension and humor, I couldn’t put this book down. I am totally in love with this series and the way that Harris has managed to create such a believable world alongside our own. So, so looking forward to more!!
